January Meltdown

Friday, January 27, 2012

Here we are right in the heart of winter and arguably so far we’ve had only 3 or 4 days of real winter weather. From January 19th through the 22nd temperatures did not go above freezing and we picked up over 10 inches of snow but that’s been it! January will end with temperatures averaging out some 2 to 3 degrees above normal. As far as measurable snow is concerned, what we’ve seen so far is what we’ll end up with for the month.

After Fridays near 60 degree reading, the weekend will turn colder or rather cooler with highs in the 40s on Saturday and probably 30s on Sunday. We should see a fair amount of sun although I can’t rule out a random sprinkle or flurry. The Ghiorse Factor will hold right around a 7 for outdoor activity.

The overall pattern is not likely to change much as we step into February. Colder weather early in the week will moderate into the 40s by mid-week. We have to watch out for the possibility of a coastal storm late in the week that could bring either snow or rain or both. This is pretty much the way the winter has gone so far and I don’t see a big change in either direction coming in the near future.
