Warwick North Little League will begin their Little League World Series run on Thursday when they take on Mid-Atlantic champion Maine-Endwell Little League out of New York at 3 p.m.

Warwick got to Williamsport after winning the New England Championship over Connecticut on Saturday, August 13.

"Each stop along the way has had a special meaning for us. Beating Jamestown in districts was great, to beat a really good Lincoln team to get to Bristol was amazing and then getting to Bristol, getting a win under our belt and then rallying from four runs down in the last inning and then playing a really good game in the championship to here, it's been great," said Warwick North head coach Ken Rix.

Warwick is already in Williamsport, having left around 8 a.m. on Sunday and arriving around mid-afternoon of the same day. Warwick traveled to Williamsport with New York, coincidentally, their first opponent.

"We actually became really good friends with that New York team in Bristol. We traveled to the World Series with them, the kids listened to music together on the bus and all different things but on Thursday the lines will be drawn," Rix added.

Maine-Endwell Little League

New York is in the World Series after defeating Pennsylvania 6-2 in the Mid-Atlantic region championship game. New York is red hot coming into the World Series having won 19 straight games.

"You would be foolish not to do your homework and not know the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent. But you are not going to see us over coach, we are going to let the kids play," said Rix.

Maine-Endwell is making their first appearance in the World Series, and is only the 17th New York team ever to participate in the Little League World Series.

World Series Experience

New jerseys, new shoes, new bats, baseball fields that are in pristine condition and of course ESPN are all the benefits of making it to the Little League World Series. But with all that, there are baseball games to play and a championship on the line.

"There is definitely a line. When we step on the field for games or for practices it is all business. But these are 12-year-old kids and they are being treated like rock stars. I'm happy to be able to have this experience with them," said Rix.

Warwick opens the Little League World Series at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 18 on ESPN.
