First, it was the West Elmwood Intruders Varsity Level 3 team who took gold -- then the Mount Hope Cowboys Jr. Pee Wee Small Level 1 took top honors on Tuesday. [VIDEO ABOVE].
"This particular set of girls has won nationals two times, last year in Bantam Level 3 now this year in Varsity Level 3," said West Elmwood coach Terica Winters. "It takes so much hard work to get here and it’s even harder to win.
"We’re against some of the best teams in the nation so it’s an honor to represent the New England region in this prestigious competition and win -- and win consistently, 2015, 2016. 2017, and 2018 national champions," said Winters. "This team is an inner city team so for most of them getting a plane for the first time first time experiencing Disney is honestly a win all its own."
Providence Wins More Gold
Following the first two championships, the Mt. Hope Cowboys Jr. Pee Wees took home more gold -- in the sideline cheer category.
"Kitty [Werts] is the head coach of the Jr. Pee Wee Cheer Team," said Pam Hughes with the Mt. Hope Cowboys organization. "[Our] cheerleaders won back to back National Championships in two days against two stacked divisions. Not only did they win Highest Choreography Score and Highest Total Score for their morning Session on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, on Friday, December 7, 2018 after the conclusion of the National Cheer Competition, we learned that they had the Highest Choreography Score 9.3 and the Highest Total Score 93.56 of the entire five days of National Competition."
