VCU Tops Rhody 70-64

With four minutes to play in the game, Virginia Commonwealth took a 15-point lead over URI sending Ram fans heading for the exits at the Ryan Center.  They shoiuld have stayed.

Dan Hurley's Rams proved that while they are short on talent, their long on effort and fought to the finish before falling 70-64.

When Andre Malone nailed a 3-pointer with two minutes left in regulation, Rhode Island cut the deficit to five points at 62-57.  But URI could not finish off the rally and fell to a better VCU squad.

Rebounding was again a big factor in the game as VCU out-rebounded Rhody 32-21 for the game.  14 of VCU's rebounds came on the offensive glass.

Xavier Munford's 17 points paced four Rhody players in double figures.  TJ Buchanan and Andre Malone scored 11 a piece while freshman Jordan Hare added 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Virginia Commonwealth is a top 25-caliber program and the Rams were led by Juvonte Reddic's 18 points.  VCU improved to (17-5, 5-2 A-10) while Rhody falls to (6-13, 1-5).

Rhody travels to Hinckle Field House to take on 9th-ranked Butler Saturday at 4pm.
