NEW: US News and World Report: Ranks Champion Cities

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

The heavyweight bout between Boston and New York sports continued today as US News and World Report released its Top 10 Cities with the Most Sports Championships. Not surprisingly, the bitter rivals topped the list with New York upstaging Boston to the tune of 55 to 33.

The 27 Yankee titles propel New York to the top, while the Celtics lead Boston with an NBA high 17 ‘chips. Boston fans would be quick to point out that since the turn of the century Boston leads New York six titles to three.

New York’s only solace this decade comes from the excruciating Super Bowl defeat the Patriots suffered at the hands of the Giants in 2008, spoiling their perfect season and football immortality.

Chicago, Los Angeles and Detroit round out the top five with 27, 22 and 22 respectively.
