URI’s Matthews on Watch List for Bob Cousy Award

University of Rhode Island sophomore guard E.C. Matthews has been named to the 2015 Bob Cousy Award watch list, one of 36 guards across the country to be on the list.

The Bob Cousy Award

The Cousy Award is named after Boston Celtics Legend and Hall of Famer Bob Cousy and is given to the best point guard in the country in college men's basketball at the end of the season. The winner of the 2015 Cousy Award will be named on the Monday of the Men's National Championship in Indianapolis.

Terriffic Freshman Year

Matthews is coming off a freshman season where he was named the A-10 co rookie of the year as the fourth leading scorer in the conference, averaging 14.3 points per game for the Rams. Last season, only three freshman across all of men's college basketball averaged 14 points, four rebounds and two assists per game and Matthews was one of them.
