URI Officially Announces Enrollment of Transfer Basketball Player Earl Watson

The URI men's basketball program and Head Coach Dan Hurley officially announced the enrollment of Chipola College transfer Earl Watson Wednesday.

GoLocalProv reported Watson's verbal commitment to URI on November 12th.  Hurley also told the press Watson was enrolled and practicing with the team in his postgame press conference after Saturday's win over Dayton.

A former Wichita State commit, Watson has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining and will be eligible to play in games starting next Fall.

Earl Watson Joins Rhode Island Basketball Program

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Earl Watson has enrolled at the University of Rhode Island and has joined the men's basketball team, it was announced today by head coach Dan Hurley.

"We are happy to have Earl join our basketball program," Hurley said. "Earl is a nice addition for our roster. He is an experienced, mature player and provides us with another physical presence."

Watson will join the Rams on the practice floor for the remainder of the 2013-14 season and will have two full seasons of competition beginning in 2014-15.

A native of Fort Pierce, Fla., Watson competed at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. for two seasons, from 2011-13. During the 2012-13 season at Chipola, the 6-7, 250 lb. forward averaged 9.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 29 games, connecting on 54.0% of his shots from the floor. Watson registered four double doubles on a squad that went 26-5 overall and 8-4 in the Panhandle Conference. As a freshman with the Indians, Watson averaged 6.5 points and 5.3 rebounds while making 57% of his shots.
