Earl Watson Joins Rhode Island Basketball Program

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Earl Watson has enrolled at the University of Rhode Island and has joined the men's basketball team, it was announced today by head coach Dan Hurley.

"We are happy to have Earl join our basketball program," Hurley said. "Earl is a nice addition for our roster. He is an experienced, mature player and provides us with another physical presence."

Watson will join the Rams on the practice floor for the remainder of the 2013-14 season and will have two full seasons of competition beginning in 2014-15.

A native of Fort Pierce, Fla., Watson competed at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. for two seasons, from 2011-13. During the 2012-13 season at Chipola, the 6-7, 250 lb. forward averaged 9.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 29 games, connecting on 54.0% of his shots from the floor. Watson registered four double doubles on a squad that went 26-5 overall and 8-4 in the Panhandle Conference. As a freshman with the Indians, Watson averaged 6.5 points and 5.3 rebounds while making 57% of his shots.
