URI Loses 18 Point Lead, Falls to George Washington 62-58

The URI Rams (11-8, 3-3 A10) fell 62-58 to (15-4, 4-2 A10) George Washington on Friday afternoon. URI has lost three of their last four games. 

Can't Hold on 

The Rams were in good shape leading by 18, 28-10, after a Jared Terrell dunk with 8:23 to play in the first half before George Washington began their come back.

George Washington would close the  first half on a 19-6 run and trail 34-29 at the end of the first half. 

In the second half, George Washington's Kevin Larsen got himself a layup with 6:39 to play to give George Washington their first lead since it was 2-0 in the opening minute.

URI would get the lead back at 52-48 with 5:50 to go before George Washington went on an 11-3 run, giving them the lead for good at 60-55. 

The Rams would get back within two, 60-58, but George Washington hit two free throws with 7 seconds to play to seal the win. 

A Stat of Note 

George Washington shot 30 free throws in the game, 15 in each half, and 25 of them. 

URI shot 11 free throws in the game and made 6 of them. 

The Leaders 

URI was led by Jarvis Garrett who netted 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting from the field, including 3 of 5 from three-point land. 

Jared Terrell followed up with 14 points on 5 of 10 from the field. 

Next Up 

URI returns home on Wednesday, January 27 when they host Fordham at the Ryan Center. Tip off is  set for 7 p.m.
