URI cannot comment on a student athlete or recriting until a letter of intent is signed. Expect to hear confirmation from the school and the basketball program as soon as the ink dries.
The 6’7” Watson is a long and athletic player, averaging over 9 points and 6 rebounds per game last season for Chipola, which is located in Marianna, Florida.
Watson originally committed to Wichita State, but decommitted over the summer over concerns with his academic requirements. He plans to enroll at URI for the spring semester and will be eligible to play starting next Fall as long as his grades are up.
Watson is another big recruiting coup for Coach Dan Hurley and he should add some muscle and depth to the Rhody frontcourt next season. Watson has 2 years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
