URI Hires David Cox as Assistant Basketball Coach

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

URI has hired David Cox as the newest member of the men's basketball coaching staff, head coach Dan Hurley and the Athletic Department announced today.

Cox spent the last 4 seasons on the staff at Rutgers as the associate head coach.  He previously worked under John Thomspn III at Georgetown and Jamie Dixon at Pittsburgh.

"David has a wealth of experience and success working with programs at the highest levels," Hurley said. "He is one of the most well-rounded, well-respected coaches in America. David's proven abilities to recruit and to teach the game will be an asset to our program."

Cox is well regarded for his ability to recruit the Washington D.C. area and its suburbs.  He fills the hole on the Rhody staff left by Preston Murphy, who moved on to Boston College this offseason.
