Fourteen games into the 2011-2012 season, the URI Rams still have yet to put together back-to-back wins. Rhody’s second attempt this season at a modest 2-game win streak was halted by Central Florida 65-54 in the championship game of the UCF Holiday Classic in Orlando Friday night.

Coming off of a win over James Madison the night before, Rhode Island was hoping to build off of that victory by pulling off the upset of the Knights. Unfortunately, URI struggled offensively as they have for most of the year leading to the loss.

Freshman guard Mike Powell was the only Ram in double figures as he netted a game-high 21 points on 8 of 15 shooting. He and fellow freshman Jonathan Holton (9 pts on 4 of 7 shooting) combined to go 12 of 22 (55%) from the field while the rest of the team went a combined 9 of 37 (24%).

URI’s struggles from beyond the arc also continued as the Rams went 5 for 21 from three (24%). Transfer guard Andre Malone (2 pts) went just 1 for 11 from the field including 0 for 4 from three.

URI (2-12) returns to Kingston to ring in the New Year before heading up to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to take on Boston College January 2nd in a 1pm start. The Eagles are (5-8) under second year coach Steve Donahue and were thumped by 23rd-ranked Harvard 67-46 Thursday night.
