Saturday, October 31, 2015
Brown University is red hot having won four straight games and they are home this weekend in a huge game against Penn. Meanwhile, Bryant and URI hit the road looking for wins. Here is this weekend's Rhode Island college football preview.
Penn vs Brown, 12:30 p.m. at Brown Stadium
The Brown Bears (4-2, 2-1 Ivy) are at Brown Stadium to host (3-3, 2-1 Ivy) Penn in a battle that will determine sole possession of third place in the Ivy league. Both teams are also only one game behind both Harvard and Dartmouth who are tied for first at 3-0.

What Brown needs to do to win
The Bears defense has played well over the last couple of games and they will need to do so again against Quakers quarterback Alex Torgerson, who was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 350 yards and four touchdowns last week against Yale.
Brown's defense has given up 280 pass yards and 30 points per game so far this season.
Offensively, the Bears should keep feeding running back Johnny Pena, who scored four touchdowns and had over 100 yards rushing. The last time Brown faced Penn, running back Seth Rossenbauer had 206 rushing yards so the Bears could have a big ground game.
If the Bears are going to win their fifth straight game, containing Alex Torgerson and running the ball will be keys.
Bryant vs Holy Cross, 1 p.m.
The Bryant Bulldogs (4-3, 2-1 NEC) hit the road this week to take on the (3-4, 1-2 PL) Holy Cross Crusaders of the Patriot League. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
This is only the second all-time meeting between the two schools, with Bryant winning the first meeting in 2013, 17-16 at Bryant.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a 26-24 home win against Saint Francis University in their last game and are currently riding a two game winning streak.
What Bryant Needs to do to win
Last week, Bryant's offense was challenge against Saint Francis and this week will be another challenge. The Bryant offensive line will be in the spotlight in this game as Holy Cross's defense has posted 12 sacks so far on the season.
The Crusaders defense is also good at forcing turnovers, namely interceptions, as they have seven interceptions on the season so far. On the other side, the Bryant offense only has turned the ball over seven times so far this season.
Defensively, Bryant will need to contain Peter Pujals who has helped his offense average nearly 300 passing yards per game along with 30 points per game.
Bryant's offense will be in for a tough road challenge but continuing to not turn the ball over should give them a good chance.
URI vs New Hampshire
After a week off, the University of Rhode Island (1-6, 1-3 CAA) visit the (3-4, 1-3 CAA) New Hampshire Wildcats. New Hampshire has won 10 of the last 11 meetings
While the Rams were off, New Hampshire is coming off of two straight losses and looking to get back on track in conference play.
How URI Wins
The Rams offense has been successful in previous games by handing the ball to running back Harold Cooper, who is averaging 163 all-purpose yards per game so far this season.
URI has had trouble scoring this season so giving the ball to Cooper takes pressure off of Mroz and helps the offense stay on the field. Rams only averaging 14 points per game. Meanwhile, UNH gives up 223 rushing yards per game so huge chance for URI.
On defense, the Rams will look to play solid defense on both the run and pass game, as well as force turnovers. UNH has thrown seven interceptions so far this season, compared to eight touchdown passes so the Rams should be able to take advantage.
For URI to get the win, the running game will be a factor as well as playing solid defense and taking advantage of UNH mistakes.
