Sullivan, McGonagill Share Brown MVP Honors

Tuesday, May 07, 2013

Brown Basketball graduating seniors Stephen Albrecht, Tyler Ponticelli and Matt Sullivan.

The excitement is back.

After a few lean years, the Brown men's basketball program appears to be heading in the right direction once again.  Mike Martin's first season at his alma mater resulted in a (13-15) season including a (7-7) mark in Ivy League play.  And while those numbers may not jump off the page at you, when you consider what was expected from this team (picked 7th in the preseason poll), they certainly accomplished a lot.

Highlights from this past season include a stunning come-from-behind win over Providence College in late December, an overtime win over Niagara and a road sweep of Cornell and Columbia which included a buzzer-beating three in the Big Apple.

Sunday night, the team that has laid the foundation for what everyone involved with the program hopes is future success was honored at a banquet.  Here is the school's official release detailing the award winners:

Brown men’s basketball held its annual team banquet and awards dinner Sunday evening with a group of players, coaches, alumni, parents and staff members attending the event at Fleming’s Steakhouse in downtown Providence. Head coach Mike Martin and his coaching staff presented several team awards, while each of Brown’s three seniors – Stephen Albrecht (Crown Point, IN), Tyler Ponticelli and Matt Sullivan – spoke about their Brown experience.
