St. Mary’s Downs URI 82-59

Friday, December 28, 2012

A 22-5 run midway through the first half helped St. Mary's take control of their game en route to a 82-59 win over the University of Rhode Island.

The Rams jumped out to the early 21-13 lead midway through the half, but the Gaels closed the half with a flourish to take 35-26 advantage at the break.

Rhode Island pulled to within 4 points of St. Mary's in the second half, but that was as close as they would get.

Xavier Munford scored a game-high 20 points for URI but it was St. Mary's who had 5 players in double figures led by Stephen Holt's 17 off the bench.

The Gaels shot a sizzling 53% from the field and 42% from three point range and hammered Rhody 42-17 on the glass.

St. Mary's improves to (9-3) with the win while Rhode Island falls to (4-8).

The Rams are now off until next Friday when they will host the Brown Bears at the Ryan Center.
