Sox Visit White House

The 2013 World Champion Boston Red Sox may not be the "idiots" of 2004, but no one can say that this group doesn't contain some interesting characters.

Johnny Gomes was dressed for the occasion.

Following their season-opening loss in Baltimore Monday, the Red Sox had an off day Tuesday which they used to visit President Barack Obama in the White House to celebrate last year's World Series Title.

The Boston Beards were as colorful as ever, both literally and figuratively.  Outfielder Johnny Gomes showed up decked out in a bright and patriotic blazer of stars and stripes identical to the one which he purchased for all of his teammates.  He also presented President Obama with one of his own.

Gomes wasn't the only one to draw attention to himself Tuesday at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.  David Ortiz presented the President with an authentic Red Sox home jersey with the number 44 on the back signifying his standing as the 44th President of the United States.  While at the presidential podium with Obama, Ortiz took advantage of the moment to take a "selfie" with the President which went viral on social media Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday's trip to the White House signified the Red Sox' third trip there in the last nine years.  Not bad for a franchise that hadn't won a world title in the previous 86 years prior to 2004.
