Sorenstam, Tseng Highlight CVS Field

Next month the 2012 CVS/Caremark Charity Classic will be teeing off at Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington for the 14th consecutive year. And, once again, some of the sport's biggest and brightest stars will be participating.
World Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam will be in the field, returning to the Ocean State for the first time since winning the 2006 US Women's Open at Newport Country Club. Joining Sorenstam will be 4-time LPGA Player of the Year Lorena Ochoa, 16-year old Lexi Thompson and the #1-ranked women's player in the world - Yani Tseng.
Perennial favorite Julie Inkster will also return joining a field that also includes Champions Tour stars Corey Pavin, Mark Calcavecchia and Peter Jacobsen along with tournament co-hosts Brad Faxon and Billy Andrade.

It will be difficult for the CVS to attract any top PGA Tour players to this year's event due to the fact that the US Open will be held the week before in San Francisco. That would make it logistically challenging to get players from the west coast to the east coast in time and well-rested to participate in the event.
While Faxon and Andrade did not tip their hand as to what the pairings might look like, you can expect to see a lot of male/female pairings as Sorenstam hinted to when she talked to the media gathering via Skype.
One interesting new twist to this year's event will be that Tuesday's second and final round will feature a scramble format as opposed to the traditional best-ball format which will still be used for Monday's opening round.
This year's event runs from June 17-19 at RICC with the pro-am on Sunday and the actual tournament on Monday and Tuesday.
