Hendricken rising sophomore Justin Mazzulla has been offered a basketball scholarship to Boston College, according to Zack Spears and 247hoops.com.

When reached for confirmation, Mazzulla's father told GoLocalProv that "it appears that way," when asked if BC had made a formal offer.

Mazzulla started at point guard as a freshman last season and led the Hawks to their first state championship since 2010.

Standing at 6'2" and possessing the length and ball-handling ability coaches crave, Mazzulla is already one of the top point guards in Rhode Island.  His older brother Joe won 3 state championships at Hendricken before playing Division 1 at West Virginia and then transitioning into a career in coaching.

Hawks head coach Jamal Gomes innocently told GoLocalProv Thursday that he thought Mazzulla would play Division 1 basketball down the road, but the timing of the BC offer was certainly a pleasant surprise.

Mazzulla plays AAU ball for Boston Area Basketball Club, and his performance this summer was good enough to entice new BC head coach Jim Christian into offering him a scholarship 3 full years before Mazzulla will head to college.

A true floor general with maturity beyond his years, Mazzulla told GoLocalProv last Fall that his goals in basketball included winning 4 state titles and making it to the NCAA Final 4.  He also said he aimed to make the Honor roll at Hendricken all 4 years of his high school career.

Mazzulla is working out with his brother this summer, and as Boston College can attest, the hard work is starting to pay off.
