Entering the final week of the regular season, RIIL Boys' Basketball is about to begin anew with Divisional Tournaments beginning the first week of March and the Open Tournament following those.

For those wondering, the Top 10 teams in each Division make the Divisional Tournaments, with the Top 6 teams each getting a bye and the 7th place team playing the 10th place team and the 8th place team playing the 9th place team in the first round in each Divisional Tournament.

At the conclusion of the Divisional Tournaments, the Top 16 teams in the RIIL Power Rankings will qualify for the Open Tournament. RIIL rules state Division 1 league and playoff wins are worth 1 point each, Division 2 league and playoff wins are worth 0.8 points each, and Division 3 league and playoff wins are worth 0.6 points each.

Classical

Division Record: 10-7 (Division 1 Central)

Overall Record: 13-9

 

Classical lost to Central last Wednesday but responded by beating North Kingstown on Friday night.  The Purple are looking for another win Tuesday when they finish their season against East Providence and get set to compete in the Division 1 Tournament and then move on to defend their Open Tournament title.

Central

Division Record: 10-7 (Division 1 Central)

Overall Record: 11-7

 

Central is coming off back to back losses, but wins over Classical and Hope last week put the Knights in the driver's seat in Division 1 Central and boosts them ahead of those adversaries in the Power Pack.  Central finishes up their season at home against Cranston East on Monday.

Smithfield

Division Record: 12-5 (Division 1 North)

Overall Record: 13-5

 

Losses to Mt. Pleasant and La Salle drop the Sentinels one spot this week, but Smithfield rebounded nicely with a 30 point victory over a good Central team on Sunday.  The Sentinels close out their season Tuesday night against Woonsocket.

Hendricken

Division Record: 13-5 (Division 1 South)

Overall Record: 13-6

 

Hendricken finished up their regular season with wins over South Kingstown and Cranston East, but losses to La Salle and Coventry slide the Hawks down a spot to #7 in the Power Pack.  Regardless of what happens this week Hendricken will be a Top 5 seed in the Division 1 Tournament.

East Greenwich

Division Record: 16-0 (Division 3 West)

Overall Record: 18-2

 

East Greenwich is 2 wins away from an 18-0 campaign in Division 3 this year and a 20 win season overall.  EG currently sits in a tie for the 11th seed in the Open Tournament, and the Avengers are as hot as anyone right now, as evidenced by their 16 game winning streak.

North Kingstown

Division Record: 12-4 (Division 1 South)

Overall Record: 17-4

 

North Kingstown lost to Classical last Friday, but the Skippers bounced back with a 1 point win over Central on Saturday.  NK plays at Cranston West on Monday and hosts Coventry on Tuesday to close out the season. The Skippers will be the #2  seed in the Division 1 Tournament if they can win those 2 games.

Barrington

Division Record: 16-1 (Division 2 East)

Overall Record: 19-3

 

Barrington continues to cruise though Division 2 competition, and the Eagles will cbe a Top 2 seed in the Division 2 Tournament regardless of what happens in their season finale Tuesday against Rogers.

West Warwick

Division Record: 16-1 (Division 2 Central)

Overall Record: 20-2

 

West Warwick extended their winning streak to 20 games, but the Wizards finally suffered a Division 2 loss last Friday night at the hands of Tolman, so tey drop a couple of spots in this week's rankings.  West Warwick travels to pay Exeter/West Greenwich on Tuesday night in their season finale.

Coventry

Division Record: 13-4 (Division 1 South)

Overall Record: 18-4

 

Coventry won a 69-68 thriller over Hendricken last Wednesday and followed it up with an easy win over Cranston West on Friday.  The Oakers finish up their regular season Tuesday at North Kingstown.

La Salle

Division Record: 16-1 (Division 1 North)

Overall Record: 21-1

 

La Salle regains the top spot this week after winning 5 games in a 10 day span.  The Rams continued to show why they're the cream of the crop in Division 1 by beating Hendricken and Smithfield.  La Salle closes their season out Tuesday night at home against St. Raphael.
