The Friars have struggled in their first three years of Big East Lacrosse, since the conference began sponsoring the sport in 2010.  The final game of the 2012 schedule was a 15-11 win over Villanova on April 28th - PC's first-ever win in Big East Conference competition.  Prior to moving into Big East lacrosse, the Friar program had participated as a non-scholarship entity in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

"I want to thank Chris for all his efforts and wish him the best in his future endeavors," Athletics Director Bob Driscoll said. "I believe our lacrosse program has a strong foundation and we are poised to move ahead into a new era in Friar lacrosse. We are about to begin construction on a new lacrosse stadium and a locker room facility. That combined with the fact that the Big East is one of the premier conferences in the nation for lacrosse should make this a very appealing head coaching position."

"It has been an honor to serve as the lacrosse coach at Providence College for the past 14 years under the leadership of (school president) Father Shanley and Bob Driscoll," Burdick said. "I have tremendous belief in the players in the program and the players coming in. I believe the lacrosse program will be very strong for years to come."

Burdick's career record was 85-134 at Providence, which included a 5-38 mark since joining the Big East.  The Friars reached the NCAA Tournament in 2004, 2006 and 2007 playing out of the MAAC, with four regular season conference titles and three MAAC tournament championships.
