Red Sox President & CEO Larry Lucchino to Step Down

Boston Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino will step down from his position by the end of the year, according to reports. Lucchino is 70 years old and his contract expires at the end of the season. Sam Kennedy, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Red Sox will take over.
Recently, Lucchino has been a major part of the purchase of the Pawtucket Red Sox and their efforts to build a new stadium in Providence. Lucchino's role increased after PawSox President Jim Skeffington passed away in May.
Lucchino came to the Red Sox in 2002 as part of the ownership group with John Henry and Tom Werner and has helped lead the organization to three World Series titles in his time. Prior to the 2004 World Series title, the Red Sox had not won a title since 1918.

Sam Kennedy
Sam Kennedy, 42, is from Brookline, Massachusetts and has been with the Red Sox organization since 2002, coming in with the new ownership group. As executive vice president, Kennedy has overseen the Red Sox business operations, including corporate sponsorship, broadcasting, as well art ticketing and marketing.
Kennedy also worked under Lucchino with the San Diego Padres.

The Red Sox are currently 47-58 and in last place in the American League East, on pace to miss the playoffs for a second straight season and three out of the last four seasons.
