On Wednesday morning, the City of Providence, along with the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority and the Providence Bruins will announce that the 2013 American Hockey League All-Star Game will be played at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

The last time the game was played in Providence was in 1995, drawing a sellout crowd of nearly 12,000. The AHL All-Star Game is a two day event that includes the AHL Hall of Fame induction and the AHL All-Star Skills Competition.

Providence received the nod to host the game after Mayor Angel Taveras personally went to the selection committee and advocated for Providence’s facilities. He was the only Mayor to do so.
