New Licensing Program for RI Saltwater Fishermen

Monday, June 11, 2012

There’s good news for all of the Rhode Island recreational saltwater fishermen out there.

Anglers will still be required to renew their licenses with the National Saltwater Angler Registration, but will now only have to pay $7, thanks to a new state program.

State officials have created the Rhode Island Recreational Saltwater Fishing Licensing Program, which doesn’t allow the federally mandated registry, which charges $15 per license, to be implemented in Rhode Island.

This also means that anglers’ fees will go exclusively towards funding state marine programs.

Fishermen can sign up at www.RI.gov.

More than 37,000 permits were issued through the program in 2011. This year, 15,477 anglers have already secured their license through the state program.

Why do we have to have a National Saltwater Fishing Licensing Program.

What purpose does this serve?

Anyone?
