Thursday, August 02, 2012

Thousands of the nation's most elite soccer players will descend upon Kingston, Rhode Island for the 2013 US Youth Soccer Region I Championships as part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series.

Soccer Rhode Island will host the East Region Championships at the University of Rhode Island starting June 27. The tournament draws US Youth Soccer State Champion teams from 15 Eastern states, including Rhode Island. Winners of the Eastern Region will go on to compete in the National Championship series.

More than 4,500 players will compete throughout the weekend and over 10,000 spectators are expected to attend.

The US Youth Soccer National Championship series is one of the most elite recruiting events for top collegiate programs. This past year, more than 600 coaches attended the regional championships including top-10 programs at the University of North Carolina, Louisville and the University of Virginia.
