NEW: Brown Names Pina Assistant Basketball Coach

Pina joined Bryant after spending a year as an assistant coach at nearby Rhode Island College under coach Jack Perry.
As an undergrad at Boston College, Pina joined the men's basketball team as a walk-on prior to the 1997-98 season and earned an athletic scholarship midway through that year.
Pina was a star player at BC. In 1998-99, he started every game for BC and averaged 4.5 assists per game - 7th in the Big East.
Pina was named Team Defensive MVP in 1998 and earned the honor of Top Playmaker in 1999. Pina played in 78 games for Boston College during his career, making 38 starts as a guard.
Pina is a 2001 graduate of Boston College, Pina earned a bachelor's degree in communications. He lives in New Bedford, Mass.
According to sources, James Sorrentine (the younger brother of Brown Assistant Coach and former Vermont star), will be elevated from grad assistant to Pina position at Bryant.
