McLaughlin Hits Game Winner as Bryant Edges St. Francis 61-59

The Bryant Bulldogs (7-11, 4-1 NEC) defeated (6-12, 2-3 NEC) St. Francis of Brooklyn 61-59 on Thursday night at the Chace Athletic Center on Bryant's campus. Bryant has won two straight games and five of their last six.

Bryant trailed by six, 55-49, with 4:35 to play in the game before going on an 8-3 run to tie the game at 57 with 2 minutes to play.

Bryant held a brief 59-57 lead before a Chris Hooper tied the game at 59 on a layup with 24 seconds left. 

Bryant  got the ball back for the final possession and with 4 seconds left, it was Shane McLaughlin who buried a jump shot from just inside the free throw line, giving Bryant  the 61-59 win. 

The Leaders 

Bryant was led by Hunter Ware who netted 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field, including 4 of 6 from three-point land. 

Providence native Marcel Pettway followed up with a double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds. 

Next up 

Bryant returns to action on Saturday, January 16 when they host LIU Brooklyn. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.

Lift From Bench

Bryant got a lift from their bench as Curtis Oakley netted 6 points and Gus Riley grabbed netted 5 points while also pulling down 5 rebounds.

Points in the Paint

Head coach Tim O'Shea has to be happy with the Bulldogs ability to attack the paint in this game. 

Bryant scored 34 points in the paint compared to just 22 for St. Francis. 

The Bulldogs attempted 13 three-pointers in the game.

Marcel Pettway

Marcel Pettway did not lead the Bulldogs in scoring but he had a big game, posting a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. 

Pettway's 12 points came on 6 of 10 shooting from the field and of his rebounds, 5 of them came on the offensive end. 

Pettway has reached double figures in 4 of Bryant's last 5 games and has a double double in two of those games.

Hunter Ware

Hunter Ware led Bryant with 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field, including 4 of 6 from three-point land. 

Ware has reached double figures in four of the last five games for Bryant. 

Ware also grabbed 3 rebounds, recorded 2 steals and had an assist  in 37 minutes of action.
