La Salle head coach Steve O'Donnell and son Brady will look to repeat as state champs on Sunday.

La Salle Academy and Moses Brown each won their semifinal games Thursday night at Brown University and will now play for the Division I boys lacrosse championship, which is set for 5pm on Sunday at Brown.

La Salle Remains Undefeated

The undefeated La Salle Rams held off a stingy Barrington High School team to secure a 12-8 semifinal victory.

La Salle had trouble at times in the first half with Barrington's relentlessness, taking a 7-5 lead into the half, despite being outscored 4-3 in the second quarter by the Eagles.

The Rams got a lift from junior attack Peter DeSimone in the first half, netting four of La Salle's seven goals.

“Peter can score,” La Salle head coach Steve O'Donnell said.

Despite winning the game, this marked the first time all season that the Rams let their opponent get within five goals of them. However, O'Donnell was just happy to get the win and move on.

“In the world of lacrosse, a win's a win,” O'Donnell said. “I don't think we played up to our potential. We can certainly play better. I give Barrington the credit, they played an outstanding game and had a good game plan. Our guys didn't play the way that they're capable of playing, but when we needed to we scored and we did some good things.”

La Salle will now look to win back-to-back Division I championships for the first time in program history, as the Rams captured their first lacrosse title last year.

Moses Brown outlasts Hendricken in tight game

Moses Brown's William Farnham scored with under four minutes left to play to lift the Quakers to an 11-10 victory over Hendricken in the nightcap of the Division I boys lacrosse semifinals.

Moses Brown got three goals from junior attack Jack Stallman, two goals from James McCahan, and one from Robert Penney to take a 6-5 lead over the Hawks into halftime.

However, the Hawks weren't ready to go down easy.

Just three seconds into the second half, Hendricken's Jonathan Finelli rushed into the zone off of the opening face off and ripped a shot to the back of the net, tying the score 6-6.

The drama didn't stop there, with the two teams trading goals for the majority of the second half.

Hendricken got two goals from Finelli, and one apiece from Chris Marrinan, Andrew Fera, and Darius Jagminas, while the Quakers got two huge goals from Alex Igliozzi, and one apiece from Stephen DeLeo, and Chris Tibbetts to tie the game 10-10 with just over four minutes left.

With just 3:33 remaining in the game, Farnham cut over the middle in the attacking zone and ripped a shot to the back of the net, putting Moses Brown on top 11-10 late in the game, securing the victory for the Quakers.

Moses Brown will now look to hand La Salle their first loss of the season in Sunday's state championship game.
