It's not easy being a young team.  Jim Baron's Rhody Rams have learned that valuable lesson time and time again this season.

Despite fighting hard as they have virtually all season long, URI couldn't make the plays they needed to down the stretch to be a more experienced St. Joe's team.  The Hawks won it 80-69.

Rhode Island actually held a lead at halftime 38-36.  But the Hawks raced out to a 14-point lead in the second half thanks to a 21-5 run in the first 8 minutes.  But the young Rams would battle back.

Led by senior Orion Outerbridge (19 points), the Rams responded with a 17-5 run of their own to close to within 2 at 62-60 with 4:34 left.

But URI either ran out of gas or simply missed too many shots.  That allowed the Hawks to pull away for the win.

Nikola Malesevic returned from his suspension and added 12 points for URI.  Freshman Jonathan Holton had 11 points and 9 rebounds.

St. Joe's was led by Carl Jones' 28 points.

The win lifted the Hawks record to (17-10) overall and (7-5) in the Atlantic Ten.  Rhody dropped to (5-22).  The Rams are (2-10) in league play and will likely not be participating in this year's A-10 Tournament.

Rhody hits the road for their next game at St. Bonaventure Saturday at 4pm.
