Exclusive: Baron Out at URI

Coach Jim Baron
Sources close to the University's athletic program tell GoLocal that Baron final years of his contract will be paid by booster money - not paid with University funds.
Baron is signed through March 31, 2014 and his base salary is $348,000. in Addition, Baron is also guaranteed the gate receipts for one game. Other provisions of the contract are not public according to the University.
Baron Coached St. Francis and St. Bonaventure prior to taking over at Rhode Island in 2001-2002 season. His career record at URI is 184 wins and 165 loses.

Over $348,000 a year to coach a basketball team. What a joke.

historically, its just been really hardto recruit at
uri, look at the football team over the last 30 years
look at basketbal the last 30 years, except for the
lamar years, its always beentough to recruit
even with the ryan center, its still tough,
limited student support. almost no local support.
