Chad Mitchell led the Rebels (15-4, 12-4) with two goals and an assist. East Greenwich led just 4-2 at halftime, but exploded for three straight goals to open up the game.
“I think our experience was a big factor,” said East Greenwich head coach Brian Trapani. “Our guys have been here before, so the experience was not new to us. The sights, the sounds, the speed of the game…we’d been through it before. So gave us an advantage. Next year, South Kingstown will have been through it, so watch out for them.”
“I couldn’t ask for anything better,” said senior captain Ethan Zink, who was named as the game’s Most Outstanding Player for his 3 goal, 4 assist performance. “It’s the best feeling I’ve had in my eighteen years. I’m more than proud,” he said.
Zink took control of the game in the second half, creating opportunities for himself and teammates as East Greenwich padded its lead.
“I knew it was time for me to step up. Grab the bull by the horns,” he said.
This was the second title in school history for East Greenwich. South Kingstown was attempting to win its first.
