Bryant places three on all-NEC team

The Bryant Bulldogs placed three members of the men's basketball team on the all-NEC post-season squads, announced Tuesday. It's the second straight year for Bryant to have three players earn all-conference honors, as the program enters the post-season for a second year in Division I.
Senior forward Alex Francis, junior guard Dyami Starks and senior guard Corey Maynard all earned accolades for their 2013-14 performances, as the Bulldogs finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-13, and 10-6 (3rd place) in the Northeast Conference. Francis began his career at Bryant by winning the NEC Rookie of the Year award, and he ends it with back-to-back first team all-NEC selections. With 2,078 points and 984 boards in his career, the Harlem, NY product could become the first player in conference history to finish with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. He the NEC's sixth all-time leading scorer and with one point will become the only player in league history to rank in the top-five in career scoring and rebounding. This season Francis finished third in the NEC in scoring (19.0), second in rebounding (8.3), and first in field goal percentage (.578) and double-doubles (11).
Starks, a 2nd team pick, was a four-time Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week in 2013-14. He started the year by dropping 35 points on nationally ranked Gonzaga and never looked back, finishing the regular season fourth in the NEC with 18.9 ppg. A Duluth, MN native, he is also third in the league with 2.9 treys per game and has five games of 30+ points on the year. In the two seasons since his arrival as a transfer from Columbia, Bryant has won 37 games and Starks has scored 1,095 points.

The Australian native has been a fixture for the Bulldogs, who enter the NEC Tournament as the number 3 seed. He is averaging 13.5 ppg, good for 11th in the conference, and he enters the postseason with 1,043 career points.
Bryant will look for a program first Wednesday night at the Chace Athletic Center on the Smithfield campus, playing Saint Francis (PA) at 7:00 pm and hoping to earn a Division I post-season win for the first time.
