Brown, URI Basketball Set to Renew Rivalry at Ryan Center
Tuesday, November 28, 2017
The University of Rhode Island Rams and Brown University men's basketball teams are set to meet for the 159th time in program history on Tuesday at the Ryan Center.
URI leads the all-time series 105-53.
The Rams (3-2) enter the game following a loss to Virginia in the NIT Championship, while the Bears (4-2) are coming off a win over in-state rival Bryant University.

Brown
The Bears enter the game searching for their first win in the series since 2011, when they beat the Rams 65-59 at the Pizzitola Center.
"They are going to test your mental and physical ability for 40 minutes. They are gonna test your depth, they have great players and they are really well coached. We are gonna have to be really connected offensively and stay true to our defensive principles to have a chance to win," Brown head coach Mike Martin told GoLocalProv.
The Bears have been led all season by sophomore Brandon Anderson, who is averaging 20.8 points per game for Brown.
He has scored at least 20 points in every game except one.
“Brandon is a really good player he has worked hard, he had good freshman season last year, but he took that success and it motivated him to be better this year. He hits the gym early, stays after practice to work on his game, so it's not a coincidence that he is having the success that he is,” said Martin.
Anderson is also averaging 4.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.
The Bears have also gotten contributions from freshmen Desmond Cambridge and Zach Hunsaker.
Cambridge is averaging 13.5 points and four rebounds per game while averaging 26 minutes of action per game.
Hunsaker is averaging 31.3 minutes and 13 points per game.
“The two newcomers that have made the most impact, as far as minutes go, are Desmond and Hunsaker. They can both score in a variety of ways,” said Martin.
For Brown, the game will conclude a stretch of three games in four nights.
"I think it's fun, the guys really enjoy it. They really work hard all year long for the 28 to 30 games you get. The games are the fun part, which is what I always tell them," Martin added.
URI
The Rams enter the game having won each of the last five and 14 of the previous 15 games against Brown.
However, URI head coach Dan Hurley is not looking past the Bears.
“Brown coach Mike Martin has put together a heck of a talented, young team there. Anderson at the point guard played really well against us here. They’re a really, really talented young team that is 4-2 this year and had a great win over Bryant Sunday. They’re a program that’s on the rise and Mike’s a heck of a coach,” said Hurley during URI’s media availability.
URI remains without guard E.C. Matthews, who is recovering from a fractured wrist.
In his absence, Jared Terrell has picked up the slack, averaging 19.6 points per game including a game-winning shot against #20 Seton Hall in the NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament.
Terrell was named A-10 Player of the Week on Monday.
“He deserves it. That was a huge win for the conference, there has been some great guard play in college this year. To put 32 on a rugged Big East team, a top 20 team, in what was kind of a rock fight second half was impressive,” said Hurley.
Besides Terrell, the Rams have also gotten contributions from center Andre Berry and guard Stanford Robinson.
Berry, in his first season as a starter, is averaging 12 points and five rebounds per game.
Robinson is averaging 11 points per game.
