Brown Football Alum Cruz Signs With the Chicago Bears

Former Brown Bears football All-American defensive back AJ Cruz has signed a three year deal the the NFL's Chicago Bears. The Bears signed Cruz as a wide receiver and return specialist.

Cruz is coming off a season in the Arena Football League where he played for the Arizona Rattlers. With the Rattlers, Cruz played offense, defense and special teams, tallying 27 receptions for 220 yards and  five touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball.

Defensively, Cruz registered 34 tackles and six pass breakups.

The Arizona Rattlers won the ArenaBowl Championship last season.

Cruz at Brown

While at Brown, Cruz had 12 interceptions which is fourth best in Brown football history. Cruz ranked second on Brown's 2012 team with 71 tackles and intercepted four passes, ranking him second best in the Ivy League.

Cruz  was one of 41 players in Ivy League football history to have been selected first team All-Ivy there times and was the 10th Brown player to be honored  three times. Cruz was also second team all-Ivy selection as a freshman while earning All-Ivy honors as a return specialist in 2012.

Cruz also tallied 929 kickoff return yards, ranking him sixth all time when his collegiate career came to a close.
