Brown Falls To American 70-61

Monday, January 02, 2012

American University senior Charles Hinkle scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the first half Monday to lead the Eagles to a 70-61 win over Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Hinkle was the Eagles’ leading scorer coming into the game and he helped his team get off to a quick start scoring 8 of American’s first 10 points.{image-1}

The Eagles led Brown 35-26 at halftime and increased their lead to as many as 21 points in the second half before the Bears came storming back.

Fueled by the high energy of football players Telf Lundevall and Patrick Donnelly along with Josh Biber and Jean Harris, Brown cut the deficit to 4 points with less than 2 minutes to play. Unfortunately for the Bears, they ran out of gas in the end.

Junior forward Andrew McCarthy continued his solid play of late leading with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Harris scored 14 coming off the bench while junior Stephen Albrecht poured in all 13 of his points in the second half.

The loss dropped Brown’s record to (5-10) on the year. The Bears are off for 9 days before returning to action at home against Longwood on January 11th.
