The Brown Bears men's basketball team (7-13, 2-4 Ivy League) fell 77-73 to (16-7, 5-1 Columbia on Saturday night at the Pizzitola Center. The loss snaps Brown's two game losing streak.

Steven Spieth gave Brown a 68-67 lead after converting a layup with 2 minutes to play in the game.

However, Columbia would then go on a 7-0 run sparked by a Chris McComber three to take a 74-68 lead with 38 seconds to play. 

The Bears would get within two points, 75-73, after a Kyle Haber three with 6.8 seconds to go but Columba would seal the game on the free throw line. 

Brown trailed the Lions 37-31 at the half 

The Leaders

Brown was led by Steven Spieth, who poured in 21 points on 8 of 10 shooting from the field.

Tavon Blackmon followed up with 14 points and eight assist. 

Next up 

Brown travels to Harvard on Friday, February to take on the Crimson. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

Sharp shooter JR Hobbie played 21 minutes in the game and recorded 2 points on 1 of 3 shooting from the field. 

Hobbie has only reached double figures in one of Brown's last five games.

Kyle Haber made a big contribution off the bench for Brown, netting 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting from the field, including 3 of 3 from beyond the arc. 

Overall, Brown's bench tallied 18 points compared to 24 points from Columbia's bench.

Tavon Blackmon

Tavon Blackmon was the second leading scorer for Brown in the game, netting 14 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field while dishing out 8 assists in 38 minutes of action.

Blackmon has reached double figures in three straight and five of the last six games for the Bears.

Free Throws

Brown struggled from the free throw line in the game, converting only 6 of 14 shots. 

Meanwhile, Columbia was able to convert 15 of 19 free throws and they came away with  the win.

Steven Spieth

Steven Spieth continued his great play, leading the Bears with 21 points on 8 of 10 shooting in the game, includign 4 of 4 from three-point land. 

Spieth has now reached double figures in four straight games for Brown, two of which he has scored over 20 points. 

Spieth also grabbed 5 rebounds in the game
