The Brown Bears men's basketball team (7-12, 2-3 Ivy) defeated (9-10, 2-3 Ivy) Cornell 86-80 on Friday night at the Pizzitola Center. Brown has now won two straight Ivy League games.

The Bears trailed 65-64 with 7:33 left to play in the game when freshman Travis Fuller knocked down a three to give the Bears the lead for good.

That three sparked a 14-4 Brown run, giving the Bears a commanding 78-69 lead after a Tavon Blackmon layup with 2:28 to go. 

The Bears would seal the win at the free throw line in the final seconds. 

Brown led 37-34 at the half. 

The Leaders 

Brown was led by Steven Spieth and Cedric Kuakumensah who each poured in 16 points in the game.

Kuakumensah registered his 9th double-double of the season, pulling down 12 rebounds. 

Next Up 

Brown returns to action tonight when they face pre-season Ivy League favorite Columbia at the Pizzitola Center. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.

Tavon Blackmon had 14 points on 5 of 10 shooting from the field while dishinng out 5 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds. 

Blackmon has reached double figures in 4 of Brown's last five games.

Turnovers

One thing that nearly cost Brown in the game was turnovers. 

The Bears turned the ball over 16 times, leading to 18 Cornell points.

Meanwhile, the Bears forced 8 Cornell turnovers but only got 4 points out of it.

Cedric Kuakumensah

Cedric Kuakumensah tallied his 9th double-double of the season, pouring in 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field while grabbing 12 boards. 

Kuakumensah averages a double-double on the season, 14 points and 10 rebounds per game, and has reached double figures scoring in 4 of brown's last 5 games. 

Kuakumensah also added three blocked shots in the game.

Steven Spieth

Steven Spieth co-led Brown with 16 points on 3 of 7 shooting from the field and 10 of 10 from the free throw line. 

Spieth has now reached double figures in three straight games for Brown, two of which were Brown wins. 

Spieth also grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 5 assists in the game.

Spreading the Wealth

Brown's offense was clicking on all cylinders for one of the first times all season in this one. 

For the Bears, four of the fiver starters reached double figures with Travis Fuller netting 7 points off the bench, including the three-pointer that gave Brown the lead for good. 

Brown shot 47% from the field and 47% from three in the game. 

The Bears had 18 assists in the game led by Tavon Blackmon and Steven Spieth with 5 each.
