Brady Responds To Deflate Gate, Claims No Knowledge
Friday, January 23, 2015
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady addressed the media on Thursday afternoon to address the recent Deflate Gate scandal. Brady answered a multitude of questions from the local and national media -- including questions about the knowledge of the scandal, his preference in football air pressure and even if he wanted to apologize to fans of the Patriots. Brady was scheduled to speak on Friday, but his press conference was moved up one day after Bill Belichick addressed the media on the situation earlier in the day.
Brady claimed no knowledge of how footballs became deflated on the Patriots sideline. "I didn’t alter the ball in any way," Brady said. "I have a process that I go through before every game where I go in and I pick the footballs that I want to use for the game. Our equipment guys do a great job of breaking the balls in. they have a process that they go through. When I pick those balls out, at that point to me they’re perfect. I don’t want anyone touching the balls after that. I don’t want anyone rubbing them, putting any air in them, taking any air out. To me those balls are perfect and that’s what I expect when I show up on the field. That happened obviously on Sunday night. It was the same process that I always go through. I didn’t think anything of it. Obviously I woke up Monday morning and answered a question on the radio about it and that was the first I really heard about it."
Brady continued by claiming he was confident that there was no wrongdoing by anyone on the Patriots. "Yeah, I’m very comfortable saying that," he said. "I’m very comfortable saying that nobody did it, as far as I know. I don’t know everything. I also understand that I was in the locker room preparing for a game. I don’t know what happened over the course of the process with the footballs. I was preparing for my own job, doing what I needed to do."

Finally, Brady was asked about his involvement in the investigation. Brady stated that the NFL had not contacted him. "No, but they may," he said when asked about his contact with the league. "They may. I think that’s obviously their choice."
