Big East basketball home-and-away opponents announced
Thursday, June 28, 2012
Looks like there may be some increased expectations in Friartown, and around the Big East, if the 2012-13 schedule is any indication.
The Big East Conference has announced league opponents and game sites for its men’s basketball teams for next season. And the conference schedule – which comprises 135 regular-season games – will once again bring about some of the most-anticipated contests nationally in 2012-13. Nearly 80 percent of the regular-season league games (107 of 135) will include at least one team that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. Thirty-seven games (27 percent) will be between two NCAA tournament teams from 2012.
For Providence, there are home-and-away games scheduled against UConn, Syracuse, Villanova and Seton Hall. Syracuse represents what could be construed as an "upper tier" team for next season, while Seton Hall and Villanova are probably a notch below. UConn is a bit of an enigma due to roster losses and upcoming academic probation, but considering teams are grouped in quadrants based on their expectations for the season, the Huskies are probably considered a "lower tier" team.

Each team will face 10 opponents once and four opponents twice. All 135 regular-season conference games will again be televised, either by the ESPN family of networks or CBS Sports.
According to the conference, the decisions regarding repeat opponents are driven by fairness and competitive balance within the parameters of television selections and geographic rivalries. The full 2012-13 conference schedule, complete with times and dates, will be announced later.
