Four McGlynn leads Rhody with 27 points

The University of Rhode Island Rams men's basketball team (4-2) defeated the (1-5) Rider Broncos 82-57 on Sunday at the Ryan Center. The game was played as part of the Cancun Challenge in which URI finishes with a 3-1 record.

URI trailed 14-13 with 11 minutes left in the first half before taking control of the game with a 14-2 run to go up 27-16 after a Kuran Iverson free throw with just under seven minutes to play in the half.

The Rams would lead 41-28 at the half and in the second, Rider would cut it to nine points early on but get no closer. 

The Leaders

Four McGlynn led the Rams with 27 points on six of ten shooting from three-point land and and six of 12 overall in the game. Jared Terrell followed up with ten points of his own while also pulling down five rebounds. 

Next Up 

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, November 2nd when they host Holy Cross at the Ryan Center. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

Kealen Ives

Providence native and Classical High School's all-time leading scorer Kealen Ives returned to Rhode Island to face the Rams and netted seven points on 1 of 4 shooting from the field in 17 minutes off the bench.

Bench Points

Over the last couple of games, URI has really struggled to get any production off of the bench, putting alot of pressure on the starters. 

However, in this game the Rams got 24 points from the bench. 

Christion Thompson led the bench with 11 points in 13 minutes while Earl Watson contributed five points. 

Nicola Akele contributed three, Shane Plunkett contributed three and Andre Berry contributed two.

Hassan Martin

Hassan Martin did not reach a double-double in this game but did contribute six points, six rebounds and had five of the Rams ten shot blocks in the game. 

Martin's points came on one of three shooting from the field and four of four from the free throw line. 

Martin saw 21 minutes of action in the game.

2nd Chance Points

The Rams posted 20 second chance points in the game compared to Rider's 11 second chance points. 

A portion of those points came from the 15 offensive rebounds URI grabbed, four of which came from Earl Watson off of the bench. 

URI won the overall rebounding battle 43-34.

Four McGlynn

Four McGlynn had a big game for URI, netting 27 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field, including six of ten from three-point land in 34 minutes of action.

McGlynn was also 9 of 11 from the free throw line. 

McGlynn rounded out his stat line by pulling down five rebounds and dishing out two assists.
