Steven Spieth recorded 14 points in his home coming game

The Brown Bears men's basketball team (1-5) fell 77-65 to #25 (4-0) SMU Mustangs on Sunday afternoon in Texas. The Bears have now lost four straight games. 

Former President George W. Bush and first lady Barbara bush were in attendance at the game sitting court side.

A Jason Massey free throw pulled the Bears into a 31-31 tie with SMU with just under eight minutes to play in the first half before SMU took control using a 17-3 run to go up 48-34 with 40 seconds left in the half. 

Brown would trail 48-37 at the half. 

In the second, the Bears made a late run, getting as close as seven, 74--67, after a Corey Daugherty three-pointer with 1:10 to play in the game. 

However, the Bears were unable to get any closer as SMU hit three of their final four free throws to seal the win. 

The Leaders 

Brown was led by Justin Massey who poured in 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field. Meanwhile, Steven Spieth followed up with 14 points in his return home to Dallas. 

Next Up 

The Bears return to action on Wednesday, November 2nd when they host Central Connecticut at the Pizzitola Center. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

Record Watch

Cedric Kuakumensah recorded three blocked shots against SMU and is now just four blocked shots away from the Ivy League all-time record. 

The record sits at 252 adn Kuakumensah is at 248. 

Brown's next game is Wednesday at the Pizzitola Center.

Steven Spieth

Steven Spieth returned home to face SMU and had a nice game in front of his home crowd. 

Spieth poured in 14 points on 4 of 13 shooting from the field, including 4 of 7 from three-point land. 

Spieth has reached double figures in scoring for Brown in every game this season except one (vs Providence) and the 14 points are the second highest point total of the season for Spieth. 

Spieth also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists in the game.

Justin Massey

Justin Massey had his best came since coming to Brown from FAU. Massey poured in 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field, including 4 of 6 from three-point land. 

Massey also grabbed two rebounds in the game.

Points in the Paint

SMU really won the game in the paint, outscoring Brown 38-18 in the game and shooting 49% percent from the field. 

Meanwhile Brown was not bad from the field, shooting 44% and taking 32 three-pointers, making 15 of them. 

SMU's ability to get easier points by going inside is what hurt the Bears.

Rebounds

Brown really had a disadvantage on the glass, getting out rebounded 42-27 and giving up 16 offensive rebounds which helped lead to 9 SMU second chance points. 

Kuakumensah led Brown with 7 rebounds and Steven Spieth grabbed six, however, nobody else on the team had more than three. 

SMU's Jordan Tolbert pulled down 10 boards and the Mustangs had another player with 7 and three players with 5 rebounds.
