Steven Spieth leads Brown

The Brown Bears men's basketball team (1-2) fell 75-66 to (1-2) Niagara on Wednesday night in Niagara Falls, New York.

The Bears trailed 27-26 with 5:49 left to play in the first half after Cedric Kuakumensah made a jump shot. Brown would not score another basket until their was 57 seconds left in the half and Niagara had taken a 36-28 lead. Niagara ended up closing the half on a 11-4 run to go into the locker room up 38-30.

In the second half, Brown cut their deficit to three points, 49-46, with 13:15 to play in the game but Niagara pushed it right back up on the very next possession. 

Brown would not get within three points the rest of the way as Niagara would cruise to the 75-66 win. 

The Leaders 

Brown was led by Steven Spieth who netted 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the game. Spieth has reached double figures in all three games this season. 

Cedric Kuakumensah got his third double-double of the season, netting 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Kuakumensah also tallied three blocks and is just nine away from the Ivy League all-time record. 

Next Up 

The Brown Bears return to action on Saturday, November 21st when they make the short trip to the Dunkin' Donuts Center to battle in-state rival Providence. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Steven Spieth

Steven Spieth led Brown with 15 points on 4 of 11 shooting from the field and 5 of 5 from the free throw line. The 15 points is a season high for Spieth who has reached double figures in every game. 

Spieth also had nine rebounds, three assists and two steals in the game.

J.R. Hobbie

J.R. Hobbie led the Brown Bears bench with 9 points on 3 of 7 shooting from the field and 3 fo 6 from three-point land. 

Hobbie also had three rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes of play. 

Freshman Corey Daugherty had six points on 2 of 12 shooting from the field.

Cedric Kuakumensah

Cedric Kuakumensah is off to a great start this season and against Niagara, he put up his third double-double in as many games. 

Kuakumensah had 10 points on 4 of 14 shooting from the field and 2 of 4 from the free throw line, along with 11 rebounds, three blocked shots, 1 assist and 1 steal. 

Kuakumensah is now just nine blocks away from the Ivy League all-time record.

Shooting woes

At the end of the day, the game of basketball just comes down to making shots and in this game, Brown really struggled. 

The Bears shot just 30% from the field and 27% from three-point land. 

Niagara shot 47% from the field and 37% from three-point land and got the win. 

As shown in an above slide, Brown won or was very close in just about every statistical category, meaning it came down to shot making.
