The product: Inspired by the question, "What's Your Happy?", Happy Shirts bring bright, smiling characters from pirates and giraffes to loungers and ballerinas, plus dozens of other designs that state what makes you happy, to $20 cotton t-shirts. Fun enough, but for every t-shirt that Happy Shirts sells, it donates one clean, blank t-shirt to a child in need. The tees are made from 50 percent ring spun cotton and 50 percent recycled materials, are sweatshop free and have a minimum carbon footprint.
Local connection: Happy Shirts was co-founded by Eric Anderson, a Bryant MBA who founded Enviro-Clean and Insurance Reconstruction with this father Jack, in 2002. A devoted t-shirt wearer, Anderson teamed with graphic artist (and Smithfield native) Jason Tessitore to found Happy Shirts, with a fundamental philanthropic mantra: "Get a Shirt Give a Shirt," in November of 2010. The company has created relationships with several orphanages and aid organizations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of Anderson and his wife Laura adopting their daughter there in the spring of this year.
