Mr Broesder made a good observation that many folks are not aware of. By setteling these cases you have not waived the right to prosecute the banks criminally. It's a win,win for all states on both ends.

The ACLU had a high ranking executive in Virginia convicted of possessing violent child pornography-I don't even want to think what that was like.
A staff attorney for the ACLU in NY was convicted in a sting operation for attempting to meet a child for sex.
The same people who rail about the Catholic Church(of which I am not a member)are curiously quiet when the ACLU routinely defends the "rights"of convicted sexual predators.
If a priest is abusing kids, lock him up and throw away the key.
In the end,it's the faullt of the offender himself-you can't condemn an entire church.
Cardinal Law did apparently shield some sexual predators and should be punished, but he is beyond the reach of prosecutors.
The Penn State situation is nauseating, but the blame belongs to individuals, not the institution itself.

Jonathan "The Bigot" Flynn might be a real name, too.

Mistakes made by individuals inside the Church is something they have owned up to and are dealing with. People who continue to use it as a battering ram against the Church are the ones being unreasonable. Child molesters sneak themselves into all institutions that offer them access to kids. We should ask ourselves why there is so much lingering bigotry aimed at the Catholic Church, but not against public school teachers, camp counselors, coaching staffs, etc ---all institutions that have been caught shielding their own perverts. For some reason, only the Church gets held to this impossible standard: None of your millions of members can ever make a mistake. If one does, your entire organization loses its "moral high ground" forever. No matter the issue, and no matter how much time has passed, Church-hating bigots will always be there to remind everyone of this irrelevant topic.

I asked that he use his real name so we can have a real discussion. I use my name and stand by my comments. People who use pseudonyms and alias'es are not debating honestly. Not using a real name discredits one's arguments automatically. I will not burn any one's house down. That accusation shows how moronic the right has become.

I am not a socialist but I think the Catholic Church has lost credibility by protecting child abusers. I know several abused people personally who were in my home town parish. Father Porter was moved there before he went to MA.

From: Guest MINDSETTER™ Terry Gorman: E-Verify Can Solve RI’s Budget Problems

in Politics

Of all the people the Mayor and Governor want to sacrifice, I never hear them talk about the illegal immigrants. Sense they both have fostered policies that contribute to a sanctuary City/State. The media should do an in-depth study of the cost of illegal immigrants on the City and State. I’ll bet that it would be more than enough to help their financial problems. We don’t have to keep blaming the Federal Government, for all the problem, when we can easily make it less appealing, attractive, and less financially beneficial for them to come here. Instead we do the opposite, and then want retirees, non-profits, taxpayers to make up for what they cost us. Mayor Taveras keeps pounding the drum saying “we have to fix our structural deficit”, but never does he mention the cost involved with illegals as a part of the solution. This is just being dishonest with the people paying the bills, so he can keep the immigrant populations vote…… I think it’s called PANDERING !!!!!! I, being a retiree that he wants to sacrifice, refuse to do so until he addresses this huge issue.

Why would Chafee be influenced by common sense? He's much happier pandering to professional ethnics.
E-verify is color blind and accurate enough insofar as it's based on Social Security records-I haven't heard many complaints about Social Security accuracy or efficiency.
Let's face it-the hardcore "immigrant rights"activists are mainly concerned with protecting illegal aliens.Actual immigrants have nothing to fear and naturalized citizens are....citizens!!
Teresa Paiva-Weed is another rumpswab for these so-called advocates.

I agree with Steve, this is the US of A and if Mr. Kraft wants to lease his land to Mr. WYNN, that will in turn put up his own money to put up a large Casino and employe many people in this economy, then great... As for Ed Sutor, he is the biggest hypocrite in this story. You will never find a bigger liar and con artist than Ed Sutor of Dover Downs, going back many, many years to when Ed and his lying brothers got into the restaurant business. Just ask anyone who has dealt with Lying Ed over the years or any of the Casino workers at Dover Downs what they really think of Ed Sutor and it's not pretty. Lying Scum Bag Ed Sutor also suckered many people into leaving Atlantic City and come work at Dover Downs, only to go back on his word as usual and not pay them for their moving expenses, bonus and shift premiums as promised, so that "Lying Ed Sutor" can have his large bonuses and screw the employees. They should have Ed Sutor's picture in the dictionary beside the word liar. Everyone knows that Ed Sutor looks after Ed Sutor and only surrounds himself with "YES" people that will agree with whatever he says and does, no matter how unethical it may be. The only thing Lying Ed cares about here is how does this effect his bonuses, and then Lying Ed will go back to spending his day lying to everyone and eating at the buffet's.

Chris O. is so completely right and M Flynn is so completely wrong. M Flynn just sounds like he's pretty socialist and has some deep seeded resentment towards the Catholic Church.

Only leftists would use priest pedophilia as any sort of argument in this debate.

When are people going to start talking about where we'd be without the Catholic Church? Do people have any idea the amount of good they do? Not important?

Chris, the name request is common from people who reside on the political left. Your name has absolutely nothing to do with this conversation, yet the liberals will focus on it in an attempt to discredit you. It's simply a leftist argumentative impulse. Your sarcastic reaction to Mr. Flynn was perfect.

On the other hand, they may also want your full name so they can find out where you live and burn your house down.

This has been common sense since it was initiated. The fact that Gov. Chaffee refuses to enact this law, simply reinforces the fact that he has no idea what he's doing as a governor.

Scott, I sort of disagree when you say Baron would be cut some slack had the Rams been to the NCAA tournament during his tenor as coach. It's all about the turn of events of this year and it certainly appears the players have tuned him out. Coming into question is how good are the freshman players he bought in. Could it be they are simply overrated and will never be any better than they are now??? I guess time will tell on that but it is highly unlikely Baron will not be around to see how this plays out?
Sharp decline in attendance also has to be a concern.
