Gotta back up Roger Williams - I'm proud to be from Providence. Even in the poorest neighborhoods, people are working incredibly hard to improve themselves and their communities.Fear of people you don't know or even see is your problem, not ours, RI Taxpayer.

COME ON MAN!!!!! Blames batting in the 6 hole caused him to change his hitting style. Scotty, how LAME is that!!! He began the season batting third but since he hit below .200 in April how could they justify keeping him there. His woes began long before he got dropped down in the batting order not to mention Ortiz got off to a pretty good start. It wasn't a no-brainer.And if Mr. Crawford is unhappy with comments made by the owner now he has two strikes on him before he even walks into the batters box.
This all being said, he has to show a positive attitude, continue to work his butt off and be ready physically and emotionally when he joins the big whenever that may be. Should he do that, I honestly he will bounce and have a big year, both at the plate and in the field. The ball is in Mr. Crawford's court.

I didn't prevent you from expressing your opinion, RIT - just explaining why it's completely uninformed. It's one thing to make sweeping generalizations, and another to assure people that your assertions rest on the strength of experiencing the thing in question *once a decade*. When you live and work here, you get a sense of how life in the city actually works that you can't get from distilling a list of horror stories from the six o clock news. From: Don Roach: Black People are Getting Lost in the American Shuffle

I fully agree with you Don. Great article. From: Dan Lawlor: Political Corruption is Nothing New to Rhode Island

Interesting how the author targets both parties. Although neither party is perfect, the last 7 decades of democrat rule in RI have clearly shown a pattern of absolute power corrupting absolutely. The democrats in Rhode Island get full credit for RI ranking last or near the bottom in every key category! They have killed the business climate here with their liberal policies. We have no balance in our legislature and until we do there will be a continuance of cities and towns on the verge of bankruptcy due to very poor economic policy that was inherited by the democrat leadership. From: Don Roach: Black People are Getting Lost in the American Shuffle

" ... Rhode Island can't afford a sequel on the national stage.”And yet Brendan Doherty represents just that -- another preening, posturing poseur who will "call for" this and "urge" that and offer shallow, uninformed, self-serving, pre-programmed responses to equally banal and destructive questions.
And all the while do NOTHING to lead us out of economic and educational ruin.

Under the 14th Amendment, equal protection clause of the US Constitution, the guarantee of equal protection precludes the need for amendment of any state constitution to guarantee the equal rights of any citizen. All the amending process of the RI constitution will do is allow for the unconstitutional codification of discrimination against gay and lesbian citizens of the state. I would remind you that BOTH the First Circuit Court of Appeals AND the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals have struck down such discriminatory laws and amendments precisely on this argument. The state legislatures and the courts are fully capable of and constitutionally authorized to prevent a bigoted public vote from taking place which would be successfully challenged through the federal courts. From: INVESTIGATION: Providence’s Most Dangerous Neighborhoods

Almost any other time I see crime statistics they are listed per capita. Raw numbers from areas with different population are next to meaningless. Representatives Art Handy and Edith Ajello continue to be re-elected despite their insane support for the "rights"of convicted pedophiles, illegal aliens, and anything that originates out of the socialist mindset.I kinda get it that Ajello is elected by the limousine liberals of the East Side, but what's up in Cranston?
Ajello sits in as a co-host on the execrable ACLU public access show at times-she shares the stage with that miserable asswipe Steven Brown.

The city has defined neighborhood districts since the nineteenth century as part of the method to devise voting districts. They were formally defined after being loosely defined previously by residents. This is not unique to Providence - every town and city in New England does the same. The official neighborhood map from the city can be found here:http://providenceri.com/ONS/neighborhoods

For those of us who don't actually live in Providence, please provide a map that delineates those neighborhoods.Having done that, tell us what (geographic, social, economic, political, historical, etc.) criteria were used to create those delineations.
Finally, who created those delineations and why do they exist?

So let me get this straight - you know more about the city of Providence than the people who actually live there because you go once a decade?Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
I live in the West End of Providence. It's not Sesame St., but it's not the Bronx, either. Crime figures reflect an average. For a city the size of Providence, these numbers aren't that bad. Not great, and certainly subject to improvement, but better than many cities of a similar size on the Eastern seaboard.
