Rhode Island has the 2nd highest ratio of Democrats to Republicans in the General Assembly, in the nation. We are second only to Hawaii. In addition, we have public sector union leaders in our General Assembly who are the real issue. They act like thugs and control our legislature. Need some evidence, how about Senator Ciccone's statements to the Barrington police officers. "You think you got pension problems now, wait till this ($#@$) is all done. This guy voted against you the last time. It ain't gonna get any better now."
Is this an episode of the Sopranos? No it is a reality tv episode of the RI General Assembly run by the Democrats and their thugs for decades. We are all suffering as a result. They need to be sent a message in November.

"Liberalism's a lie." Really? Engaging in sweeping generalizations as befits a callow, unthinking conservative, are we? So every liberal belief or action is and always has been a lie? Like free-market capitalism? That was 19th century liberalism. Elected republican/democratic forms of government? Again, 19th century liberalism. Education for everyone, not just the wealthy elite? Liberalism again. Damn, what a pack of lies this has been. BTW, as a gay man living (for the time being) here in Providence, you obviously believe that denying my partner and I equal rights under marriage is a perfectly acceptable policy because, of course, it's not discrimination that neither my partner nor I can make medical decisions for one another if we are unlucky enough to be taken to Fatima, St. Joseph's or any number of other religiously affiliated hospitals with Emergency Room facilities. Or is that another lie as well? From: NEW: Councilman Nearly Resigned Over Prov. Redistricting Process

I believe Sen Hannah Gallo is living in a dream world when right now RI is broke, the state is the 2nd highest in unemployment (11%-it went up from last month-NOT DOWN!) and the foreclosure rate is skyrocketing...She should look in her own backyard of Cranston with 253 foreclosures- most of them being single family homes.I don't believe we need a commission for the humanities consisting of
a 12-member commission, with 3 Senate members, 3 House members, and 6 public members (three selected by the Senate President and three by the House Speaker)
And will this commission be paid? Will RI taxpayers be giving these people a paycheck of some sort? And why would Fox or Paiva Weed be the ones to pick their favorites to be on such a commission?
Tell me why the private sector can't do this and as Sen Gallo says, "sustain and enhance those efforts to increase exposure to art, history, literature, philosophy, civics and other fields?"
In an ideal world, it would be nice to focus on the humanities and arts but this is not the ideal world. What is realistic is that you have young people and adults who cannot read, write or do math competently and competitively. That should be your focus.
Create a commission to bridge the business community to the schools and see what skills are needed and then have the schools offer them which will then allow people to get better paying jobs and afford the finer things in life and appreciate the higher level of things like the humanities and the arts.
Research will tell you that a child cannot concentrate and learn new concepts in school without the basics of food and clothing.
What makes you think that with adults, basics should not also come first? Before you dream of a humanities commission, you need to focus on that RI population who will need to acquire decent, well-paying jobs, who will need help in keeping their houses and not have banks foreclose on them. They need to reach that point before they can then use their extra discretionary income to enjoy art, history, literature and other fields.
If you dont consider this group of people, then you are catering to those with money –the wealthy and the highly educated who have the time to pursue such interests…

Ann Clanton -> She’s getting beat up by the far-right members of the Party . . .I was not aware the golocalprov.com was an extension of the right bashing Providence Journal - As President of the Rhode Island Republican Assembly, which this organization knows about me and has interviewed me before and published the interviews, I was wondering why I did not get a call on this, rather then golocal making some story grabbing claim that makes people say yeah we knew that about those racists - Let's understand one thing, while we all wish Ann the best, she has not been a very politically active person in RIGOP politics, so much of the op-research you claim has to do with finding out about who is in the leadership position besides just the PR statement from the state party - If it is too much to ask whose one's leaders are, then perhaps we should all become sheeple like the democrats and just go along because we were told to . . .From: NEW: Changes Coming to State Teacher Evaluation System

Are you serious?Ms Debbie has used the students of RI as the basis for HER PhD…
A “workshop” to benefit HER agenda! And a gullible public followed her willingly over the cliff…
One wonders why the Media has never reported that her PhD efforts are financed by the taxpayers! Have they ever “caught” her heading out on a Friday morning as part of her PhD. Gee, one wonders if the taxpayers funded the flights too?
Jennifer Jordan of the Projo acts like she is part of Gist’s staff at RIDE. Can’t ask any questions that might “embarrass” the Commissioner, can we?
She has turned the state upside down in her efforts to “reform” education in RI yet NEVER take responsibility for the “results” of her dictates!
Accountability? Ever notice she ALWAYS has an excuse! It is ALWAYS someone else's fault!!
The Race to the Top Funds? Used to create volumes of “recommendations” that can be found in any FIRST year Education text. How much has been spent on “Consultants” to support her efforts?
Her “Evaluation system” is a bureaucratic nightmare more akin to the “Central Planning” of the Soviet Union than the United States.
Needless paperwork drills that are nothing more than an effort to gather data points to support HER PhD Thesis.
Very similar to the SALT Surveys still conducted in RI that formed the basis for an earlier PhD effort by a RI “Educator”. What does the state actually do with these meaningless surveys? Great statistics but do they actually DO anything with the information.
Gist is a fraud and a charlatan who has NEVER taught in the Secondary environment she is trying to “reform”!!!
“Teacher of the Year”! Not at the State level, Not even at a District level! She was a “Teacher of the Year”! At a small ELEMENTARY school!! Talk about “grade inflation”, how about pure BS!
As Commissioner of Education, she is DIRECTLY responsible for the Central Falls School District. Great results, wouldn’t you agree?
In my opinion, Ms Gist is just another product of the Broad Foundation’s “School of Educational Reform”, i.e. privatize education and provide a captive market for the computer industry. Their motto is “Entrepreneurship for the Public Good in Education, Science and the Arts.” Take ONE guess what they REALLY want to do.
The Public Charter Schools that she is fostering DO NOT have to comply with Federal Mandates regarding Special Education! They are “selective” in who they choose to admit. And yet they still do not produce at the levels they say they do. Let them operate with the same restrictions / mandates that Public Schools are forced to deal with and, then compare the results.
You people just don’t get it!
She is a terrific politician and has told you EXACTLY what you wanted to hear.
Too bad that she is creating chaos for our students and destroying teacher morale in her attempt to “quantify” HER PhD thesis.
One wonders if she will also institute an Evaluation System for PARENTS?
They are the ones who have an enormous impact on the education of the children in our state. I find it absolutely amazing that Ms Gist, contrary to all reason and common sense, has stated that the home environment and socio-economic background have no impact on educational achievement.
Ever wonder why RI Taxpayers spend so much on education yet have students that cannot pass a standardized test? Ask Ms Gist that question? She’ll probably tell you that teachers are failing their students and ALL Students can go to college! Yea, right! It might be a dream but it is NOT borne out by reality.
Ask her how many students in URI’s “Talent Development Program”, funded by the taxpayers; REQUIRE remedial programs to function at the University level. Better yet, ask her the “success rate” of these students.
I for one, am tired of the Press in this state that presents an image of Ms Gist as the "Savior" of Education in RI!
Get over it people, Gist is CLUELESS. Look at the "wreckage" she left in the District of Columbia!!!

I got a little concerned when I saw some of Travon's supporters making noise about seeking Zimmerman - I don't like posse talk, whether from the right or left. But after seeing the tale the Zimmerman side put out essentially debunked by the police station video...The truth may indeed lie somewhere between what both sides say, but you'd have to accept nuance, which in Travis' world makes you a dangerous liberal that must be eradicated (funny, I had the same fine high school education he had). The Travis act is getting stale, and needs to be freshened up a bit.

Its far worse than that, JB. I just saw the emails his so-called democratic operative called into question. It was an effort called "$30 by the 30th," which was hoping to grab $30 donations to wind the quarter down. It seems imprudent and non-sensible to say you wouldn't let your children walk anywhere in Providence. Makes me think you know very little about the City. The PHA homes (yes, people live there and call it their home) are covered with cameras that are monitored from a main location. The properties are well maintained. As for the petition, obviously Taveras in his new partnership with 1033 have calculated the jobs they can have to retain power and so union members (I assume) were told not to sign. Amazing how these politicians act like its a new way of doing business while using the same tactics of those they decry. Fortunately, the East Side Mafia has Angel's back, Journal in the pocket, and this sham McGowan (does this guy do any investigative work?) to splash these sleazy ad hominen attacks through this back door channel. From: Travis Rowley: Liberalism’s Bedrock of Lies

Is there a group that hasn't been "victimized by hate and bullying" at this point? We all need to get over ourselves. This "oh, whoa is me" attitude is ridiculous. And can we all stop referring to opinions we don't agree with as "rants"...It's so stupid.
From: Travis Rowley: Liberalism’s Bedrock of Lies

The politics of victimization is a sad reality. I don't think Rowley would deny that bullying occurs. He would probably just refer to it as "assault"---which is already against the law. The point is that liberal Democrats have crafted victim groups to gain political power. Isn't this undeniable at this point? You'll also notice that Rowley believes, like a lot of conservatives, that the victim mentality "cripples" people. It's actually unhelpful for blacks, gays, etc to think of themselves as victims, and to habitually look to the gov't for answers.

Another month of do nothing constructive in the GA. Look at these proposals and look at the condition of RI economics and ask what are the GA looking at? There is not one meaningful effort in our legislative body of empty suites that is even attempting to come up with a plan to resurrect RI from bankruptcy and decay. We need a plan to reinvent RI into a business friendly state where new businesses will want to come, feel invited, feel that there is a sense of creativity in working together to build something that will be beneficial to the businesses and the state.
Of course this would mean the unionized Democratic GA would have to get their collective heads out of their self-serving agendas and really work for all of the citizens of RI. It may be a dream but if we want change we the voters have to make the necessary changes by voting in independent thinking new GA members.
