These distressed towns have much in common. Too many give-a-ways to the unions over the years with no look to the future all to assure a loyal voting base come election time. The democrats that run these towns all know ways to cut and save, they just don't do it. Easier to have the state come in and be the bad guy.

yeah ok. I'll believe it when I see it.
I'm sure at the end of 2012, there will be a list of excuses as to why this guy failed. We'll be looking at a new name who will come in to save this state.

Nothing will ever change, until a complete overhaul takes place. Not only changing the politicians in place, but the way government works.

The way businesses are allowed to go out of business, only to re-open again under the protection of bankrupcy. This leaves a snow ball of other businesses behind, paying their bill.
There are just soooooooooo many things that need to change. Until it happens, there's NO ONE PERSON who can save the state.

This is a friggin joke. The ONLY people who will benefit from a full blown casino are the owners of Twin River.
Every year this comes up, and every year the voters vote it down.
Not to mention the fact that the Lincoln residents voted against 24 hrs and more machines....but they went through anyway.
RI's politicians were always in favor of NOT having Twin River a full blown casino.
Our politicians need to create an economic plan, aside from Twin River, that will benefit this state. These clowns haven't done crap, while people are out of work and losing their homes!!!!!

Maybe he will pay the City back for the infamous $75,000 check he knew nothing about, and also pay for the Audit needed for over $300,000. Then maybe just maybe he'll be truthful about how the City ended up in the mess it's in. Then he might get another term.

I think the "who's hot" ends at a stone wall after Gina Raimondo. She has shown Steve Laffey-like toughness. Real reform around here requires pain, and anger. She drew out both. No one else even comes close. Mayor Taveras is nice likeable guy but his category five financial mess didn't produce any real blood letting. He's trying to make a go of it without hurting anyone. Won't happen.

One thing that struck me about this list is that it's almost exclusively white. Ironic that the only person of color on the list, as inspirational, smart and hardworking as he is, was selected from the field of sports. So we're supposed to believe that the shortest list of young ambitious women is all white? Politics, business, education too?

You have 2 of the 3 stooges under the Who's Not category. Add in Sheldon Whitehouse and you get the trifecta...Chafee, Cicilline, and Whitehouse=RI's own 3 Stooges!

He takes the cake alright ! Where do I begin!

Lets see he raised are property, business and car taxes
He says he supports union workers then fires all the teachers
He gave out pay raises to a select few during the financial crisis
He hires people at 150,000 and up
He paved broadway while there are worse streets to pave
He didnt speak out about the 250,000 severance pay that marchand got from the water supply board
His chief of police, esserman finally had to resign, resign not fired for having drunken teenagers at his house
With all the crime going on in providence,he still hasnt appointed a permanent police chief in over 6 months now, what the heck takes him so long to hire someone.
Let us not forget he wanted to layoff all those cops, imagine with all the violence going on in this city, shootings, stabbings, robberies ect...
He raised the prices on the parking meters and made the meter workers work later so he could ticket more people
Thats just off the top of my head!

Oh yea he takes the cake alright!!

Thank you, GoLocalProv for the inclusion of our movement into your countdown.
Not to split hairs, but wade into the murky waters of semantics I must, in that those of us who are down at Burnside Park, are not 'camping' for ours is not a Boy/Girl Scout Jamboree, but a conscious act of civil disobedience & if as Mike Govern states, our has become a nexus which attracts homeless people, then it just goes to show how sad the state of our state is when it refuses to make sure its citizens are kept safe in inclement weather.
As for the wording of our leaving the park on Jan. 2nd. as was initially posed forth during our GA last Wednesday, it's been amended to say we're not leaving until the city makes a 'day center' available to/for homeless individuals and families. What we're aiming for is for our city and little state to make a big step by setting a precedent for other cities and states, nations even, to follow.
As for the 'small' number of tents at the park lately, it does not equal the size of our numbers, for they are legion, when we include all those other RI residents/concerned citizens who are in solidarity with us & the movement in general + what we've yet to accomplish.
Come on down, join us. Let us engage in dialogue, learn from each other, grow and make changes.
Yes!

So excited to be welcomed so warmly by Providence. Ever since my experience from the Dell Social Innovation Fellowship, working with Alan Harlam and all of the other terrific mentors, I couldn’t get over how supportive the entrepreneurial community was.

My first impressions were re-affirmed when I visited for A Better World by Design and was introduced to so many incredible people by Andy Cutler & Stephen Lane who just wanted to help out. I look forward to continue working with all of the amazing people I have met and be in a city that fosters entrepreneurship and a creative spirit!

Nice try.

David Cicilline is "on the ropes" because his lies and incompetence have been exposed -- repeatedly and powerfully.

Either factor alone is sufficient to send David Cicilline back to ranks of mob mouthpieces. Together, they make certain that his name forever will be synonymous with political infamy, Rhode Island style.

Don't let David Cicilline off the twin hooks of his personal dishonor and utter professional failures as mayor and congressman.

The redistricting headlines will go away. What will destroy David Cicilline are the content of his corrupt character and the limitations of his frail mind.
