I object to your article's assertion that the bookeeping errors "cost" the GOP. The article states that the shortfall was due to bookeeping errors. How do you lose something you never had?Kudos to mark Zaccaria and his team for moving quickly to address this issue.

The officer in question is supposed to be a trained professional. How can anyone justify this response, a brutal kick in the head, from a move on the part of HANDCUFFED and intoxicated woman sitting on a curb. Looking at the video it is clear the officer was never threatened by her action and his reaction is clearly beyond any justifiable response. From: Aaron Regunberg: MLK was Cooler than You Thought He Was

___________________________________One cannot fully, deeply, and meaningfully understand the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. until one fully, deeply, and meaningfully understands the nature of his death -- the "who," "why," and "how" of the King assassination.
Anyone with reasonable access to the King murder evidence who does not conclude that he was killed by criminal conspirators set in motion by the forces that had the most to lose by the rise of social and economic justice and the demilitarization of the world is cognitively impaired and/or complicit in the crime.
Dr. King's death warrant was issued when he began to speak out against the war in Viet Nam and when the crowds rallying to him became multi-cultural.
When Dr. King began to preach that the great divide in America and in the world is not drawn along political or racial lines but rather between the Haves and Have-Nots, he no longer could be tolerated.
He taught us to see the world not as vertically bifurcated between East and West, but rather as horizontally split, with the dividing line not at the equator, if you will, but rather at the Arctic Circle. Above the line are the Haves; below it, all of us.
The Haves, vastly outnumbered, control the Have-Nots by keeping us at each other’s’ throats.
In response to the call of Dr. King, we had begun to loosen our grips – to turn strangleholds into loving embraces – and to focus on the true enemy of the people.
And then, Memphis.

Excellent point, Michael. Unlike Coach Cooley, Coach Baron obviously has his players not believing in themselves and each other. They won't win 10 games this year, but patience is the key. Within the next decade, I see Baron getting back to 20 win seasons, but without an NCAA bid. The key is scheduling. Keep away from the Syracuses, St. Peter's, and Yales and Baron's boys will be all right. From: NEW: Governor Hosts Municipal Strategy Session

The pension bill of this past fall was like catching lightening in a bottle. The chances of a similar bill helping local pension plans are pretty slim, since we'd be hoping the same democrats deal another blow to their loyal union/democrat voting base. They should be have the ability to collect on the debt the same as student loan organizations collect on those that do not pay their monthly bills. Putting an automatic payment withdrawal on thier paychecks would eliminate any avoidance and promise to pay issues if violators do not make their payments as agreed on their fines. It would be much more simplistic and there would be much less 'red tape'. Why this hasn't already been implemented is beyond my comprehension. Typical government lack of efficient internal controls which end of costing the state and their residents in the long run. From: Donna Perry: New Session Will Focus on Old Debts

Interesting. Especially interesting when Perry, her brother, the past two Republican governors, the Republican state legislators, the chambers of commerce, the tourism groups, RIPEC, and all the other incompetents five years ago spent millions to convince Rhode Islanders to vote against their own interests in order to protect a slot parlor owned by South Africans and another slot parlor owned by a Florida resident.Interesting.
Now she and the "we haven't got a clue" crowd are hyper ventilating over the "clear and present" Massachusetts threat?
This is delicious.
And they really think that throwing table games into either facility is the answer to stemming the MA cannibalization?
Someone should remind them that MA residents represent more than half the patrons at the two RI slot parlors, yet MA patrons for 20 years have chosen to drive right past the RI slot parlors and continue onto southeastern CT --- and extra hour's drive each way. For every $1 they spent at the RI slot parlors, they spent $4 at the CT casinos.
And one thing the "no clue" crowd hasn't figured out yet: it isn't just MA patrons that are going to give the RI slot parlors the backhand, just imagine the number of RI residents who will prefer visiting a MA casino than Twin River or Newport Grand.
And, for that matter, just imagine the number of RI residents who will prefer visiting a Plainridge or Raynham slot parlor rather than Twin River. People don't realize that RI is restricted, through its Gtech contract, to offering ONLY electronic slot machines. MA will offer both electronic and traditional reel-to-reel slot machines, the kind that are ever present at the CT casinos.
We are firmly stuck behind the 8-ball. Thanks Gov. Carcieri and Almond. Thanks Republican state legislators. Thanks RIPEC. Thanks Laurie White and the Providence Chamber of Commerce. Thanks tourism. Thanks PPAC. Thanks for nothing!

Michael:Thanks for the comments. I agree with you on Davis, but not on Welsh. I think that Tim was a good coach and I'm not sure that his teams wouldn't have defeated South Carolina or BC as both teams aren't great this year. I remember PC beating a good Illinois team at MSG when Welsh was coach. Tim's problem was his team's inability to win at the Big East Tournament or in the NIT and NCAA's.

The transformation of the PC team under Coach Cooley is marvelous. As a PC alumnus, I'm thrilled, and as a West End guy, I'm ecstatic. There are games that were played in the preseason that both Davis and Welch would have lost; i.e., South Carolina and Boston College. Coach Cooley obviously has these players believing in themselves and each other. They'll win their share of Big East games this year, and I can't wait to see all these players, and the new recruits, next year. Go PC!From: NEW: Governor Hosts Municipal Strategy Session

Yes, Rex Ryan brings chutzpah to press conferences, and that pleases owner Woody Johnson IX (or whatever his rank among Johnson scions. But beyond the bluster interwoven with foolishness, Rex Ryan is a defensive coordinator masquerading as a head coach. Sort of a Wizard of Oz with sports writers as supplicants. But that may be changing after his team tanked three games when winning just one would have ensured the playoffs.

Ah yes, another week of self-aggrandizement from Matlack. Can anyone really take him seriously. "But enough about me telling you about my Wesleyan education, CFO position, sports endeavors, mentors, mentorees and goodness......why don't I tell you how great others think I am....especially all those little disenfranchised people...you know, like blacks and Jews and gays....".....oyyyyyyyFrom: Good is Good: Why I DO Want to Talk About Race

Matlack doesn’t want to talk about race, at least not in a way that might challenge his view of himself. No, he wants to talk about how socially enlightened he is (and can quote at length a gay, black friend to prove it). As with virtually everything else he writes, behind the thinnest wall of apparent concern for the welfare of marginalized groups, there’s the well oiled engine of Matlack’s self-regard loudly pumping away. The experiences of others is just a means by which Matlack can be inspired or educated. Which cashes out as a chance for Matlack to congratulate himself on how he’s reached out to others who aren’t as privileged as he is. In other words, this article is nothing more than a mirror Matlack looks into as he tells himself yet again that he’s one of the good ones. I mean, check out his bestiary of “friends” who are different from him!If I were a marginalized person unlucky enough to attract Matlack’s interest and “concern,” I wouldn’t want to discuss my experiences with him, either. But for reasons that Matlack proves here he has no ability whatsoever to comprehend.
