So Mac, the teachers in Cumberland are so bad that you have worked, with hammer and tongs, to build a separate educational system? A system that is geared to success because this new system can accept and reject students. A system that can flush out students that a "regular" school system has to accept. A system that makes sure parents show up for....parents night, and make sure kids do....homework! Does he also advocate for an open enrollment?Will he advocate that Mayoral Academies also accept students with IEPs /504 plans?
Public Schools MUST accept ALL students! Mayoral Academies can and do select their students, i.e. they can refuse those whose performance is likely to be "less than stellar". That is, students are there because they WANT to be, not because they are FORCED to be!! That "willingness" factor plays a large role in future academic performance.
Nice try Mr. McKee, but I'd suggest you stop trying to sell the "Kool Aid", some people might actually be inclined to buy into the"facts" as you have presented them.
Unless and until you advocate that your "Mayoral Academies" adhere to the same mandates / restrictions imposed on public schools, I consider your remarks to be totally disingenuous!!

Yes thankfully is overreaching plan to put Cyber Security under the White House, the same Whitehouse that just signed the NDAA authorizing the unlimited detention of U.S. citizens without a trial (Langevin signed the conference report)and then claimed emergency powers in peacetime, broader than our cold war Presidents. Langevin is just a big government guy plain and simple. He needs a trophy badly and this one has already passed him by as indicated by the fact he is now just commenting as an observer on the efforts of others. A western province in Canada followed Finland's example, with great results. I didn't say anything about having Travis Rowley banned. I am a very strong proponent of free speech. Having a platform where your voice heard above all the other voices doesn't come for free, however. The right wing think tanks are incredibly well funded. That's where the talking points come from. Those talking points are almost all we hear over and over in the mainstream advertiser supported media; talking points designed to protect the interests of those who fund the right wing think tanks, not the average American.Where is the leadership and responsibility when we have people running things making comments like this, by Jack Welch former CEO of G E, " " Ideally you'd have every plant you own on a barge"?
Attitudes like that are what has gotten our whole country , especially the Northeast, to where it is today. There are the very complicated changes that have been made in the tax structure and regulatory policies that existed during the Eisenhower era when Lemuel Boulware was grooming Ronald Reagan to undermine all that, later.
Murray Rothbard? I've read some of Murray's work. Murray was a spirited radical. I liked that about him but his ideas are as fatuous as those of some of his followers. There are people at the Von Mises Institute who would like to institute a monarchy, which is where extreme free market policies would inevitably bring us close to, anyway.

Teachers have been working very hard to implement new methods of teaching to increase student performance. As soon as this starts to pay off, then they are accused of cheating. This constant attack on teachers is very demoralizing to a group of professionals who are doing the best that they can. It is time to change the dialog and give them the support they deserve.I think if you spent a couple of weeks in a classroom you would have a different opinion.
