Gina sticking her neck out? Her push for so call reform was nothing more than greed. She'll profit from the restructuring and of course she gets to keep the Carcieri/Sasse tax cuts.

Patrick Crowley wants to undo pension reform. I actually hope he and his misguided union bosses succeed. Then they will wind up with no pension or half a pension like the Central Falls retirees. No judge is going to force the state to go bankrupt by undoing this pension reform bill if it becomes law. Further more reforms are needed to prevent fraudulent disability pensions and double dipping--receiving more than one state and or city pension.

There is no doubt setting in with regards to Loughlin support. In fact it was reinvigorated this week! The only doubt setting in is toward with GOP insiders who had to rig the open/closed vote this week by having the parties legal council and Doherty staffer Rob Coupe(who is Gio Cicione’s law partner and also part of his Doherty consulting cash grab) , send out a legal opinion that the entire matter of closing the primary was not legal. All the while he is getting a paycheck from Doherty. It doesn't pass the smell test!

This was done at the last minute on the afternoon before the vote. In addition, while party members were given 1 minute to debate the issue, Governor Carcieri was given 15 minutes to speak against closing the primary. I guess the debate rules didn’t apply to him! He has already voiced his support for Doherty. Just when grass roots GOP thought they were getting a fair shake and a fair vote, rigging occurred yet again! Typical dirty politics by the GOP insiders supporting Doherty lead by Gio Cicione. Doherty continues to lose his “integrity” label as he sits back and allows this occur in his name! Gio Cicione is the poster child for dirty and underhanded politics, even against his own GOP members and they know it. Need everyone be reminded:

THE LEGACY OF FORMER GOP CHAIRMAN GIO CICIONE
-He tossed in GOP personnel into the race last minute in 2008 in a desperate move to have candidates on the ballot, and did not fill in the paperwork properly, embarrassing the party.
–He cancelled all of the meetings on his own GOP members to ensure closing the primary would never see the light of day after his own Executive voted to move it forward.
-His own city/town chair people voted NO CONFIDENCE him
-His own GOP delegates in an ad hoc meeting (since he cancelled all of the regular meetings) voted NO CONFIDENCE in him.
- He stated that he would welcome Lincoln Chafee back into the party with open arms to the media after Chafee was elected Governor.
-He used Heidi Rogers to run in the LT Governor primary only to pull out.
-He engineered Clean Slate which was a waste of money, ineffective and left the GOP in debt.
-He recruited Dan Gordon into the party.
The most untrusted man in the GOP and he was hired by the Doherty campaign? Is there a pattern here? No wonder Loughlin has all of the grass roots support. It builds every day!

Many democrats fell on their swords last night. The state is out of gas and the unions wanted more but couldn't get it. Those who voted with the unions will be remembered next November. Those who didn't vote or show up did a dis-service to their constituents and should be replaced as well. The results of 4 decades of Democrat rule has finally reared its ugly head this year - cities and towns facing bankruptcy, the state grappling to find money, tax revenues declining, over 10% of the people out of work. Now the unions are feeling what the private sector have been feeling right along. Welcome to the pond and stop the whining and screaming.

The vote to keep the Republican primary open required 2/3 of the party, but 57% of the party voted to close it. The Doherty supporters (many from district 2 who can't vote for him) voted to keep the primary open. This is a very telling sign that clearly within the party Loughlin has the support and he hasn't even announced yet!

There are a few Democrats getting ready to jump into this race, Gemma, Sherman, Siegal, ?? When that occurs the open primary won't matter. Game on!

This is what happens when you become too dependent on the Federal Government. Over 30% of the state budget is funded by the feds. That is a receipe for disaster. The Democratic leadership will promote this by saying that we are bring federal income tax dollars back to RI. Perhaps, but how reliable is it? Now that the state has been hooked up to the federal piggy bank, those utters are running dry. Now what? Yep, you guessed it....here comes the excuses and the blame game begins. When you have a large debt to reduce, cuts are needed. The Great Recession, manufactured by the Congress, is now hurting many states. The leadership at the statehouse are now shellshocked and will be forced to make those "painful" cuts.

Twin Rivers needs something that Mass is not offering. Purchase the land stretching down Twin River Road, call in Disney and build a state of the art water/amusment park, also offer Disney better movie incentives and have them build studios/animation dept. Lot of revenue, and jobs. If not head to Foster and get a herd of cows.

in News

I believe that the agency completed a new needs assessment with the CSBG submission and served more than 70,000 people in 2010. A strategic plan was completed in 2010. New partnerships have been formed to improve access to revenues to support program objectives. Most programs have very specific outcome evaluations. The consumer affairs program was awarded HUD certification in 2011 and received a HUD grant (the only one made in RI). The agency recently received funding to deliver adult education and senior services. The agency provides food delivery to more than 30 food pantries. A new car program has generated more than $30,00 in new revenues in a short time. Programs that were underfunded have been cut or eliminated and many staff laid-off. Buildings have been upgraded to improve efficiency and lower costs. The agency is rehabbing a new family shelter. Provides more than 30 units of low income rentals property and is actively engaged in meeting the needs of the organization. As to an executive-in-waiting you’ll have to ask someone else that question.

ProCAP is not like EVERY other non-profit. It has been grossly mismanaged for years, let me see, since 1991? I challenge Mr. Rexicer to do a simple outcome evaluation of the agency's program activities. How about a needs assessment? Isn't one required for CSBG funding? Simple management issues like corrective action plans. Has the ProCAP-Executive-in-Waiting developed a strategic plan whereby he will save the sinking ship? Or is Mr. Rexier just waiting to move into the 100K job and continue ProCAP's Executive-bully legacy and flagrant disregard for ethical standards? Tough times and less money is such a crock, I can barely believe the "gentleman" is typing with a straight face.

From: NEW: Cicilline Blasts National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act

in News

Do people think critically anymore? This bill would allow citizens to carry firearms into states even if they do not 'have a license to carry from the' destination state?

Isn't the whole point of reciprocity laws to allow those who are licensed to do something in one state to do it in another without the added cost and time consuming procedure of getting licensed?

Are you aware that an American citizen with a Rhode Island driver license can drive in any of the other forty nine states even though they don't have licenses to drive in them?

Do they know why that is? It's because of reciprocity. If you're good enough to lawfully carry a firearm in one state, why are you not good enough to carry in another?

Ciciline can't have it both ways.

He claims this law will allow 'stalkers', 'child sex offenders' and domestic abusers to carry into other states?

If he believes this lie, then he's not up to the job. If he doesn't believe it, then he's lying.

Stalkers, child sex offenders, and domestic abusers are already prohibited from owning let alone carrying firearms - not that it stops them from so doing.

The whole gun-control movement is a pile of lies wrapped in fibs, plopped on a pile of statist manipulations.

Mr. Costello -

Thank you for stating the truth. Obviously, Ciciline either doesn't know anything about gun laws, or he's counting on citizens' unawareness of them.

As you say, despite the media's lies, obtaining a Concealed Carry Permit requires a thorough background check and training in safety procedures.

Having for thirty years studied both the sham 'gun control' movement and the thugs, tyrants, scaredycats and outright dopes behind it, nothing changes. They'll tell any lie, scream any spook story to gain their ends.

The father of gun control in America was a gangster and politician from NYC, Mr. Sullivan, who pushed the infamous 1911 "Sullivan Law" down the throats of NY citizens. It hasn't prevented one crime, but it has allowed criminals to prey freely upon citizens rendered defenseless by it.

Sullivan was buccanneer who passed the law to protect his goons from legaly armed ships crews, whose ships Sullivan's goons plundered.

Such is the sleazy nature of those who pimp for 'gun control'.

Sullivan died in an insane asylum within a year of passing his law. He'd long been a syphilitic, which rendered him completely insane during the time he pressed for 'gun control'.

Such is the nature of the toxic gun-control movement and the predictable tyrannical thugs who promote it.

This one can posture all he wishes. He can recite the same old stale spook stories and hissy-fit fairy tales from the late 70s, but he can't change the facts.

Thirty years of solid research proved that if you want less crime, you liberalize gun laws. If you wan't more crime, then by all means, push for more communist inspired 'gun control' and you'll get it.

Thirty years of failed 'gun control' laws pushed by the same old bunch of humorless dullards have proven what law abiding firearms owners have always said: criminals don't care one whit how many gun laws you pass - they'll ignore every one of them. That's why we call them criminals.

Cicilline goes on about this law will allow domestic abusers to carry? Obviously, he doesn't know a thing about gun laws, typical of gun-haters.

Domestic abusers are barred forever from possessing firearms, much less carrying them. He can thank his goombah, Lautenberg, for that sleazy law, which has disarmed a good many cops and soldiers. Which is likely what Lautenberg, described as a 'dark, vindictive, little man with many troubling associations', intended all along.

Whether you own one gun, one hundred, or hate them so much you can't even say the word 'gun', here's the juice:

Forty states allow concealed carry and every one of those forty states has been enjoying falling rates of violent crime.

The remaining states which bitterly cling to their cherished leftist ideology of 'gun control' all are enjoying rising rates of violent crime.

The reasons for the above are self-evident: Criminals fear citizens who can defend themselves, but they readily attack defenseless citizens.

Gun Control increases violent crime by shifting the balance of power to the criminal, who knows he can prey on disarmed citizens with impunity.

Forget the anti-gun lies burped up by the mainstream media. Cicilline is working the wrong side of history.
