Wrecks Ryan will never change. He spends way too much time running his mouth about winning the Super Bowl every year he overlooks how flawed that team really. Wrecks having named Holmes as a team captain was a mistake but he will still be with the team to honor that 5 yr, 45 million dollar contract.
Syracuse is very deep and very talented and very deserving of their #ranking but I have a suspicion that Providence will either lose by single digits or perhaps steal one.
St. John's continues to go with a six-man roster tonight in their loss to Louisville at the Garden. Pitino just kept subbing at will and always had fresh troops on the floor. The Storm really have no shot against opponents who have any kind of depth.
I am fully aware of Ray Allen and Paul Pierce value to the Celtics, who were in trouble on Monday night against the Wizz until Ray hit a big three to give them a nine point lead.
Is Beckett and Crawford still mad because Valentine called them out while an analyst on Sunday Night Baseball. I think they should be seeking him out to speak to him, not the other way around. In other words... GET OVER IT. I don't know what happened with Crawford but at the time, I thought Valentine was right on about Beckett violating the rules by taking too long to deliver a pitch (of course never enforced) He was doing it in that Aug 7 game against the Yankees, even with nobody on base. On the other hand, when he pitches, one can do chores around the house with the game on and never miss a pitch.
Peyton Manning may come back as a QB with the Jets, but I don't think he will be the same.
If the Colts front office told me as a coach to "lose this game on purpose so we can get that #1 draft" and I would tell them to start looking for another coach. I don't care what the circumstances are, I could never coach ANY game that I wasn't trying to win. Otherwise, I am not being true to myself.
Fisher will be coaching somewhere next year and I hope it's in Tampa.

The police and fire unions have been stealing from the cities and towns for generations. It's time to stop the thievery.
These are the same cops that are dealing drugs, beating up handcuffed suspects and having underaged drinking parties.
This SH*T has got to STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time for the COURTS to start ruling in favor of the citizens of the state!!!!!!!!

“I support David Cicilline, and think his actual record as mayor of Providence (as opposed to the cartoon version) and the work he's done in office so far are enough reason to re-elect him. But I still think both these plans are dumb, offenses against good government. Incumbent protection simply has no valid place in drawing voting district maps, either at the congressional level, the state level or the municipal level.”

Tom,

We’ve known each other quite a few years, and I trust that you know that I respect your mind, value your friendship, and share the majority of your political and social values – although you are a tad to the right on certain issues not relevant to the discussion at hand.

As for your statement reproduced above, I’m afraid that we part company quite dramatically.

As the adage would have it, extraordinary claims demand extraordinary proof. And so your claims that the widely held public perceptions of David Cicilline as an incompetent elected official and a dishonorable man are cartoonish, and that David Cicilline has done valuable work for us in the U. S. Congress must be defended by more than an implicit argument from authority.

Are you ready to contest the charge that David Cicilline consistently lied to the electorate and misrepresented his record throughout the 2010 campaign season?

Are you prepared to offer a litany of David Cicilline’s achievements in Congress?

From the Full Disclosure Department: 1) It is no secret that I harbor immense ill will toward David Cicilline. 2) It is no secret that you were paid quite well by David Cicilline to work on his penultimate congressional campaign. I am prepared to stipulate that your positive analysis of Cicilline is not unduly colored by his patronage. I hope that you are prepared to stipulate that my negative analysis of Cicilline is not unduly colored by his perfidious dealings with me.

So then: Please provide what will amount to extraordinary proof that David Cicilline did not lie about the pre-election state of Providence’s finances, the balance of the city’s so-called rainy day fund, the state of public education in Providence’s schools, his record of bringing new construction to Providence, the provenance of his campaign ads – for starters.

Please provide what will amount to extraordinary proof that David Cicilline has not failed miserably to effect positive change in the areas of job creation, infrastructure project development, bringing about early repatriation for Rhode Island troops engaged in the illegal and immoral Middle East wars – for starters.

In friendship,

Charlie

April – Conservatives demand Chafee refer to State House lawn as "Easter grass." Governor points out that Carcieri and other former governors used same term. Conservative pretend this to be a real issue, interrupt groundskeeping with daily protests.

Gary you hit the nail right on the head. The cities should start taking back financial control that affects all of it's citizens not just a select few. Is there a valid reason the the Police and Fire Unions don't want to participate in Medicare like the rest of us..

From: GOP Nightmare: Presidential Candidates Might Not Make RI Ballot

in Politics

Presidential campaigns have had plenty of time to gear up their ground games. The date of the primary was decided last July. The calendar for the primary has been out for more than a month. So, presidential candidates have had months to prepare to collect 1,000 signatures. They should not find it a challenge. Need more proof? Independent candidates for governor like Todd Giroux and Ronald Algieri without national campaign structures collected 1,000 valid signatures in just nine days last summer.

Rhode Island has a bigger budget than most counties have in much bigger states. Consolidation is the only way to get out of this mess. We don't need all these representatives, school districts etc. The problem is, the people in this state can't see beyond their own neighborhoods. And why oh why do they vote in the same people year after year. Also, I don't think school committee members should be anyway associated with teachers or the education system. That's why they keep spending more. They or their spouse are or have been teachers. This needs to stop.

Some valid points obviously that consolidation would necessitate a lot of planning and of course give and take (naturally, this is RI). But IF citizens are truly concerned about the fiscal integrity and sustantability of this tiny state survival I truly think we NEED to consider all viable options. To simply say, cut, cut and more cuts is not the answer but must obviously be incorporated into a long term solution. Akin to the pension reforms, change is unwelcomed, hurts and provokes emotions. But to do nothing would be fatal, and sadly perhaps it is already too late especially for W. Warwick, E.P. and some others. RI SHOULD be a model state in an ideal world but alas life is less than perfect as it is already. Finally, my intent was to simply offer an idea of an alternative, perhaps a solution but only time the taxpayers and the GA has the ultimate say in all this.

We have an albatross over our heads with legacy contracts that were negotiated while benefiting both sides of those in the negotiations.
If the contracts can’t be suspended due to errors, omissions and conflict of interest then the cities and towns need to band together and file for reorganization rights under bankruptcy laws. This is a well-used course of action in business and should be used to get our financial foundation in place for present and future citizens of RI.
