Absolutely NOT, we do not have a political or infrastructure management capability to do what is required with or without money.
This state can NOT be trusted.

$76 million would be a piece of cake in cuts, like duplicate departments, waste and fraud, you could have a surplus without increasing taxes which is not a option.

Well the state should have plenty to spare for Crossroads. After all they did help push through the theft of the employee pensions.
Let the retired bank hag Nolan cough up some of her $150k/yr non-profit salary. Even better open up some of the buildings in Cranston for shelters and stop giving money to greedy 'who you know' leaches like Nolan.

Linda is right!

There is nothing more tragic than an overeducated unemployed child! That's the plan from the liberal democRATS here. More teachers and more liberal votes. Can these kids come to live in YOUR BASEMENT governerd?

We have an $8 BILLION budget, and support tens of thousands of illegals, thousands more game the system from snowbirds to union thugs, they have spent 70 years destroying our state with their fallacious arguments and hypothetical scenarios tugging at our heartstrings. What has that gotten us?

Want change?

STOP VOTING DEMOCRAT.

More $ for education means more teachers.

Teachers who we CAN NOT FIRE under almost ANY circumstance.
Teachers who have NO CHOICE on union membership-dues and where those dues go!
Teachers who have no merit based evaluation system.
Teachers who will NOT guarantee a job for my kid after graduation!!!

What a self-serving bunch of bull.

We need jobs from FREE MARKET EMPLOYERS who actually want to move here.
We need jobs from entrepreneurs who can find their way here because it's a great place to grow a business.
Right now they are avoiding RI like it was radioactive! Why? the democRATS have make employers out to be evil over the last 70 years! So, how's that working out for us?

Want change?

Stop voting democRAT.

The situation:

* Too many programs and people RECEIVING tax revenue
* Not enough producers to satisfy the appetites of politicians and their special interests
* Tax increases will further reduce consumer spending thus killing off businesses that create jobs -- creating a downward spiral

The solution:

* Reduce the appetite for taxing and spending
* Reduce programs and expenditures to essential services that benefit the common good (and those truly needy)
* Reform government to live within its means

You gotta love the media. They beg the players to say something, anything. When the players do say something, the media starts a war of words.
When the players don't say anything, then the media will write poorly about that player.

All the media outlets......stop trying to BE the news, and simply report it.

thankfully, the sales tax increase will never pass and thus there will be no addtional money for schools. schools dont need more money, they need to reprioritize how they spend what they have.

This goes to prove that our government Just Doesn't Get It. Property values plummet but taxes go up, people stop going out because incomes are falling but go ahead put higher meal taxes,(that will get them to go out), teachers are making out like thieves in the worst state for education in the country so toss them some more money. The French had the right idea in the 1790's.

I would think that from a more logical perspective, consolidating the nearly 40 school districts and administrations down to around 5, and eliminating 35 redundant sets of unnecessary school upper management and service management groups (payroll/finance/curriculum/pupil services/transportation/facilities management/food services/personnel/HR) would actually be a long-term solution that would also eliminate any need for raising taxes at the state level and would also lift so much of a burden at the local level that property taxes would actually be able to go down while still allowing for funding to be restored to things in schools that would otherwise get cut (or remain cut). That would also be a long-term solution, and not a short-sighted band-aid like Governor Gump has proposed.

in Politics

Lance,

Let me break this down for you. I usually like to vote for candidates that I believe I can trust. Tell me you won't raise taxes then my expectation is that you won't. Tell me you won't be corrupt, my expectation is that you won't fall victim to a RICO indictment.

Sounds simple right?

Well, Cicilline not only broke that trust he obliterated it with how he dealt with the financial crisis in Providence.

So yes, Congressmen deal with Federal issues and a mayor deals with local issues by and large, if we can't trust Cicilline with the local why in the world would we give him our trust with federal (read: exponentially larger) dollars?

Sure we should borrow more. Then we can raise taxes again to pay back the loan. Makes perfect sense to me.

I'd like to see one person actually admit that they voted for this IDIOT. Somebody had to. It certainly wasn't me.
